i want to replace my 2x4gb RAM pieces with 2x8gb.. and since my budget is rather limited for RAM, I stand between these 2 choices (seemingly);

Corsair Vengeance LPX Black DDR4 PC24000/3000MHz CL15 2x8GB

and

Kingston HyperX Savage Black DDR4 PC24000/3000MHz CL15 2x8GB

the reason i wanna go for the corsair, is because the corsair is about $60 CHEAPER than the kingston hyperx... is the hyperx THAT much better than the corsair that i should spend $60 more on that, or?

my current motherboard is asus b150m-a (the one that has DDR4)
my current memory pieces are Kingston 2x4GB 2133MHz (PC4-17000) DDR4 CL15

any inputs and/or other recommendations?

Ram is ram is ram. Get the cheapest out of what you listed.

Are you breaking or close to your 8gb? If not, dont upfrade and waste money. :)

yup^^ this is right. most if not all RAM have a lifetime warranty (here they do in the US) assuming that is true where You live, you really cant go wrong(unless you buy the wrong type ofc ;) )

i like Kingston (i have some from almost 10 years ago still kicking A$$
Corsair isnt bad, either...have that too.

Ok, i will go for the Corsair 2x8gb since it's that much cheaper and not that bad of an investment. ;)

and i believe that the corsair memory will suit my motherboard just fine, yes?

thanks for quick replies and help!

It'll work. The only time you need to worry about that with desktops is with high end memory and sometimes new platforms.

be sure to match the same clock speeds of the ones you already have, if not your system will run the lowest rated one for all...

i like kingston memory too, been trusting their products for moar than 10 years,
personally i dont like corsair's memory, several problems in the past, also have seen several kits not being compatible with some boards despite being certified for most board makers, just my opinion and commentary,

Regard,

It's a replacement, not adding to.
:D got confused with another topic ..... realized that the other topic still on blanc cuz i was replying here :kookoo::laugh:

Oh no... so basically i should find RAM that goes only to 2133 Mhz??
Yep. No need to replace the RAM that you have - you can add to it if you need since you have 4 DIMM slots. I believe that the Kingston 8GB DDR4 @ 1063MHz is normal, actually running at it's rated DDR4-2133 speed.

ok, so i basically need to buy 2 more 2x4gb of the same RAM then, hmm?

thats the better option... 2x4gb of the same kit or model will provide no changes, if using another brand you might match speed and voltage,

ok, so since the attached photo is my current RAM (i have 2x4gb), should i then go go for another Kingston ValueRAM DDR4 PC17000/2133MHz CL15 2x4GB (KVR21N15S8K2/8), correct?? if so, then that is $50 CHEAPER than the mentioned 2x8gb corsair! :)

No, im in Europe...

2x4gb kits normally have a higher cost per GB than the 2x8GB kits and have a very low resale value, at least on this side of the pond. If you could find someone who is swapping out their 2x4gb's, then it might make sense. On that basis, I would recommend adding a 2x8gb kit. You're $50 saving statement is still a comparison to a DDR4-3000 kit. BTW, if there is very little savings with a "slower" kit, buy the faster kit because it will hold its value longer.

I like Kingston memory, also. I have had many different brands and the Kingston's were the only ones that did not need to be replaced.
I'm talking builds for Socket A to my current, newest, Laptop. I still have some Thermal Take memory in one of my older builds but aside from that everything else failed!

BTW, if there is very little savings with a "slower" kit, buy the faster kit because it will hold its value longer.

I second that statement.

ok, so the prices are these (european prices aka local prices):

Kingston ValueRAM DDR4 PC17000/2133MHz CL15 2x4GB (KVR21N15S8K2/8) aka the same that i am currently using = about $60

Corsair Vengeance LPX Black DDR4 PC24000/3000MHz CL15 2x8GB = about $125

Kingston HyperX Savage Black DDR4 PC24000/3000MHz CL15 2x8GB = about $190

$190 is out of my budget, basically...

what you lot reckon? which one do i go for?

thanks for the inputs ! :)

This is one of the few times that I will say "that'll do" to the 2x4gb kit. The only other thing that I can think of is, if there's a market for your 2x4gb, you could resell it for say ~$45 and then buy the 16GB kit. If the market is $25, you may as well keep it and go for the 2x4gb.

but here is the thing (or "issue")... i have the budget to go for the 2x8gb kit, yes, so that's no problem at all. but should i go for the corsair 2x8gb if it is that much difference in terms of quality and performance compared to the price? and you said that the 2x8gb will only give 2133Mhz and not 3000Mhz due to Intel's limit on my motherboard... so... im pretty much lost on what i should get, really.. :/ i can go for either, but i just don't know which one would be the best option for me. as mentioned, i have no problems paying the extra bucks for the corsair 2x8gb. i just cannot afford the hyperx..

If you can sell your 2x4 kit, it could be the difference for the Kingston 2x8. Otherwise, just double the 2x4 kit...should be fine for what you need, will save you money but, resale, later, will be pennies on the dollar, compared to the higher end sticks. Personally, as a penny pinch-er, I would go for another 2x4 kit. If I ever finish my degree, I will have more money to spend and would go for the best.

Good Luck! Hope this helps.

hmm... but, the higher-end sticks are also 3000Mhz... and since my motherboard will limit it to 2133Mhz (as thebluebumblebee mentioned earlier), what point is there for me to go for the hyperx kingston then..? im just trying to understand this..

RESALE, DURABILITY, Future USE and Peace of Mind.

If you go with the 2x4 Kingston, you get 2 of those, Durability and Peace of Mind.

peace of mind it is. ill go for another kingston 2x4gb kit. it'll save me a lot of money as well as it will work fine with the 2x4gb i already have now. maybe if i need some more later, i can go for 2x8gb kingston... or 2x16gb..

thank you for the help and pointers, you all!
