From what I can tell, most RGB keyboards just look pretty with the lighting. How many have useful programmable lighting for individual keys... for example to light certain keys (with certain colors) that you'd only use in a particular game?

How many? Not sure the point of the question. Use Google.

There are programmable illuminated keyboards that accept macros for different programs. But I don't know how many.

I think an illuminated keyboard (if not too bright) can be nice in darkened rooms (like a home theater setup). But frankly, I would find a keyboard that changes colors depending on the program running distracting. I like to pay attention to what's on my monitors. The "feel" and layout of the keyboard is more important to me. But that's me.

My Corsair uses proprietary software to program any key any color, with profiles for any program I launch. I've watched a bunch of keyboard reviews from Joanne Tech Lover, she actually goes through all the programming options of each keyboard she unboxes. Easy on the eyes, too.

Yes, she is kind cute ;)

I could give a f*ck about flashing or color changing keys with no purpose. Motion lighting in PC's has always annoyed me too, I don't see any use for them other than a headache.

All the RGB keyboards I've looked at (I haven't looked at a ton) don't mention specifically being able to program individual keys. They all talk about difference light shows...

For instance, I'd like all keys to be lighted with white (or some other consistent color), while being able to designate particular keys with other colors. Fire key = Red, Movement key cluster = some other color, etc. etc. etc.

Perhaps I wasn't clear in my post. Right now I have all keys a lightish blue, except the ASDW and spacebar, which are a darker orange. Any key can have any light scheme, as well as a macro assigned to it.

Actually, I did see the K70 pop up in a search.

CoolerMaster MasterKeys Pro L is another one...

My G.Skill keyboard has profiles i can switch between at any time that you can customize what any key will do and what any key color you want. Like i had to make my macro G1 key be my capslock in a purple color for reasons in a certain game all saved on my second profile. Normal use was saved on profile one and it can be switched at any time.

KM780 is so nice but spendy.

I saw the "KM780R RGB" on sale yesterday for $99 (Amazon flash sale). I didn't grab it, want to do some more research.

Email G.Skill with questions and they should get back to you quickly. I had to and their support was awesome
