Router question

Hello.
We are using a Mikrotik wireless router in our house (192.168.0.1) and from there, we have a standard RJ45 cable leading to a D-Link switch. From that switch, we have another cord leading to another router (Telkom Mega 105WR) that will simply be used as a wireless access point. The problem is, the previous owner of the Telkom router changed its lan ip and for this reason, I cannot access it through the web interface and allow our mac addresses. Obviously, the default gateway of all our computers is 192.168.0.1. The problem is that I cannot discover what the ip of the Telkom router is. I have connected it directly to a pc in hope that the default gateway would then be the Telkom router's ip but I just got an Automatic private ip (http://www.computing.net/answers/networking/i-have-a-169254xx-ip-address-c/22962.html).

Does anyone know a way to find the lan ip of a router that is not the source of internet connection?

Yes and according to the manual, holding it down for 10 seconds will reset to factory defaults (10.0.0.2) but there is no indication that the reset has occurred and 10.0.0.2 does not work after holding down the button.

Did you detach the Telkom router from the rest of your network when you plugged your computer into it? If not it probably won't work.

Also try running these commands in the command prompt (when you're jacked in to the Telkom):

ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew

The other method is to download the manual for the Telkom router then reset it and use the default IP. Pretty simple

Yes, the router was connected only to my pc.

Only thing I can think of is to manually enter the TCP/IPv4 info on your computer and assign yourself a static IP while connected to the router (but disconnected from the rest of the network).

If that doesn't work I'm guessing that router is kaput.

The static ip would require a default gateway. I do not know the ip of the router.

You can try a 30/30/30 reset, don't know if it will work on the Telcom router though.

With the router plugged in hold the reset button for 30 seconds, then unplug the router while still holding the reset button and continue to hold it for 30 seconds, then plug the router in while still holding the reset buttong, and hold it for another 30 seconds.

I'd assume that the reset was a success (despite it not having any signal to that effect). Therefore you can use 10.0.0.2.

I'm at a loss for ideas though...

You might have to manually set your IP to 10.0.0.3. Then try getting in through 10.0.0.2 and 10.0.0.1.
