How much of a performance hit will I take if I add a 2060 to my system?
Will my cpu and memory be a huge bottleneck?

Yes your system will bottleneck it (depending on the game) but you won't take a hit. You will still get much higher FPS, just not as high if you had a newer setup.

Was looking at getting an rx 580 but my brother said for $100 more you could have a much better card so that’s probably what I’m going to do.

Can always ignore the RTX feature, or disable in the game settings. No one is forcing you to use RTRT yet.

Save yourself a $100 and get a 580 or buy used and save even more. You'll be locked to 1080p 60 anyway.

What do you mean by "add"? Did you really mean you are "adding" a second card to your system? Or are you "replacing" the HD 5850 currently installed with the RTX 2060?

You did not specify the exact 2060 model number but as seen here, you definitely will NOT take a hit compared to the 5850.

If you really did mean "add" instead of replace, you will be pushing the limits of that 650W PSU and you should consider upgrading that PSU before installing a second card.

That said, if me, with only 3 x 2GB of RAM currently installed in that system, I would be looking at upping your RAM first.

Oh wow. That's old. I'd suggest upgrade your system first. Even your ram (6gb total) might be stretching modern games too far.

thats not gonna do a whole lot in the long run m8. its probably not even worth the money youre investing - Its a dead platform. Unless the memory youre getting is FREE or literally cost peanuts, it is not worth it at all. that money would be better spent for a bigger upgrade or on parts that can carry over to your new PC when you build it. Like an SSD.

If you really have to upgrade something Look on ebay for cheap intel XEON CPUs

I disagree. Its not going to be miraculous, but 14GB from 6GB of RAM should show a nice bump in over all performance. Not only will the OS, your programs and the CPU have significantly more RAM to operate in, but the OS won't have to bang on the Page File on the slow hard drive near as often as higher priority data can remain in RAM.

And that is a significantly better graphics solution - which can be carried over to a new build.

Right. He said adding 8GB. Not adding 2GB.

Still, if he meant adding 2 for 8 total, that is better than 6GB since most consider 8GB the "sweet spot" where less and performance takes a hit and more than 8GB and performance gains will be marginal.

Got a video card and can play BF5 now in dx12 and all high settings.
Its only two years newer than my old card but it has driver support.
Working on getting a new to me i7 7700k and 64gb of ram
