RTX 2080 ti @ +1500mhz memory clock ???

Is this supposed to be possible?
I've been testing for the last hour or so and I can run my card @ +1500mhz on the memory clock. Am I playing with fire doing so or is it a normal thing for an RTX 2080 ti ??

Considering 1750MHz x8 for GDDR6 = 14G and 1500MHz x8= 12, it wont damag it, it will just be slightly slower.

Its only when you oc past 1750 you need to be careful
 
He’s running it at 1500 over... not at 1500. You’re probably at, what, 15.5 if the stock clock is 14? Seems reasonable enough to me.

What program are you using to overclock? It seems way too high to be producing zero errors. I would verify performance with benchmarks to see if you’re actually losing performance. Remember: GDDR can be clocked high but produce errors, which in turn makes it slower due to error correction.
 
Ok so he is at 3250 or 26G.

Typically Ram handles at most 2500.

Wonder what the volts are at.
 
No, he’s probably at +1500/8, not +1500x8 on top of stock. Even on LN2 on the best memory, you don’t see much past +1400, but it doesn’t scale much with cold from what I’ve seen.

He might be at 1500x2 on top of where he’s at, bringing it to approx. 17GHz at best.

Use a little common sense, man. When have you seen or heard of memory on a current generation GPU hit over twice its rated speed?
 
Iirc gddr6 i octopumped and gddr5 is quad pumped.

It is very confusing. The software shows it at half the rated speed. So the stock 14Gbps memory shows up as 7000.
So at +1500 It is 17Gbps. Which is possible if he has a card with very good Samsung memory.
But the OP really needs to check if performance is indeed improved or there are too many errors where performance actually decreases.

I'm seeing 8500mhz which is multiplied by 2, which is 17 000mhz indeed

As for testing, indeed, it is true that sometimes even if the card can achieve +1500mhz (and yes I am using msi ab) the higher speed sometimes can produce more errors or increase instability affecting the overall performance even if the framerate might seem a tad bit higher due to the higher memory clock

Which is why I will be testing more thoroughly... But as of now,

The card is at the following settings:
115% power target
+160mhz core clock
+1500mhz mem clock
No manual changes to voltage
No flashed bios

And the card passed multiple instances of "unigine superposition", "unigine valley benchmark" and I then proceeded to play Ark survival evolved @3440x1440p epic settings for 5 hours in a row without any artifacts or crashes

In my experience, memory NEVER overclock like this which is why I came here to ask for a second opinion because I figured maybe somebody else achieved this too. I found a few examples of +1200mhz OCs and a few 1300mhz

For +1500 I only found two mentions of rtx 2080ti being stable for that speed!

I'll do some further testing and come back to you...

Any suggestions for another stress test?

Best to run something like Timespy with an overclock like that your graphics score should be close to 17000.
 
the power target limits how much these card actually boost to.. can yours go higher.. ??

run heaven and see what the card boosts to..

for normal usage i would slow it down a bit.. plus 150 on the core and plus 1000 on the memory..

My power target limit is 115%. I guess If I were to flash a different bios maybe I could set a higher power target limit and then gain some headroom...
Because as of now the highest I can achieve for the core clock is 2145mhz but it's not stable... So I usually hover between 2000-2100mhz and it seems as time goes by it goes lower maybe because of temps..

Even though they're never more than 52c

Lastly, is there a bios worth flashing my card with that would allow for more headroom for power target %

Your graphics score should be higher with that overclock this is what I am getting on an Asus Strix with a 115 Core and 1000 Mem overclock.

your cpu will boost your timespy score.. the op only has a 7700k..

I did some further testing, and my score (graphic score) goes up as my memory OC goes up as well. Does this mean I'm not having "memory correction errors" even @ 17gbps (+1500mhz) ?
Anyhow, this VRAM overclocks like crazy. I'm used to crash to windows as soon as I select +1000mhz or more in MSI AB

But with the RTX 2080 ti that I have, maybe I got lucky, but I feel like I could go higher than +1500mhz seeing its stable at that speed, as far I can tell...
 
Keep going until it gets unstable. It's not getting any extra volts, so the likelihood of the extra speed killing it is slim.
