Hello
I have a question about the RTX 3060 it card
Maybe a bit of a stupid question, but forgive me, I am not familiar with the subject.
The card has an 8 pin connector for the power supply.
My computer has a 6 pin connector.
I connected this connector to the 6 pin and the card does not work. The red "power" LED and some colour patterns are on. However, the monitor goes dark and says: no signal detected.
I also connected without this 6 pin connector, same effect.
Does this mean that the card is faulty, or do I need a 6 pin to 8 pin adapter (the power supply is 750W) or new PSU?
Shouldn't the card still light up without an additional 8 pin power supply?
I ask because I haven't come into contact with cards of this kind until now.
Thanks for any advice.

I would say try connecting it as 8 pin.

Do I need a connection to the power supply, just to check the card is working?

How to connect the 6 pin plug to the 8 pin socket.
There will always be 2 pins not connected.

If the card needs an 8 pin connector and you only connect 6 of them.. Why would you think that's a good idea?

If the power supply is modular you should be able to get the required cords, otherwise get a new non shit power supply.

3060 ti’s TDP is 200W, you get 75W from the socket, 75W from a 6-pin, and 150W from an 8-pin.

I’d assume that you’d need an 8-pin to meet the minimum wattage and that may be why your system isn’t booting. A converter might help but you’d still be under the card’s TDP at 150W.

What PSU are you using?

I don't understand why people do this.. already gave him a simple answer and you come in here with TDP and Socket wattages and whatnot. The dude couldn't even figure out that he needs to plug an 8-pin into the 8-pin slot. You're not helping anyone here.

It is necessary to try with an 8-pin PSU to see if there is a problem with the card.
There are cables that convert 2x 6 pins to 8 pins, you can try quality ones.
But do not try under-stair converter cables.
Or get a new PSU.
But I don't recommend converter. Best is to get a new PSU and try it out. If your PSU has 2x 6pins, you can convert it to 1x 8pin, but if the PSU has only 1x 6pin, don't try a converter.

So without a minimum of 200W the card will not start?
Do I understand this correctly?
I know that there is 75W on the slot and in the 6 pin 75W
However, I was under the impression that this should be enough to just boot the card, to run the BIOS itself.

This is my intention for such an adapter from 6 to 8 pins.
My main question, however, was whether the card should at least boot.
This is the first time I've dealt with a card that didn't boot. I haven't had this type of card before, hence my question as to whether the 75W (plus the 75W from the 6 pin plug) isn't enough to just get the card working.

Thanks!

I'm sure enough to boot, but I think the power requirement is unquestionable. If there are 8 pins, 8 pins are attached. don't try this way on game load but please.

Your reply was dismissive, didn’t help explain the problem to the OP, didn’t question the OP’s conditions, and was condescending and insulting to boot. I don’t know how it’s helpful to go into a thread and call the OP stupid and tell them to buy new things because their current components are “shit.” You don’t even know what PSU the OP is using… You can call that “helpful” if you want, I think it’s rude. Merry Christmas.

Thanks!

IDK the technical answer, but I’d never run a component without the minimum required power.

Ah, Shibdib was right, that does not look like a reliable PSU and lacks the cables that you’d need to plug the card in natively or to use an adapter (surprising given how new it is and it’s wattage, which bodes poorly for reliability). I’d get a new one if for no other reason than the safety of the rest of your system.

CIT? that's an odd brand. I would not go for brands like that. Use a psu from a reliable company such as evga, seasonic thermaltake, corsair, etc. Never go for brands like this "CIT" brand. Also, I would highly advise you to purchase psus from proper websites, not budget websites like the one you chose. A 3060 ti should be able to boot even with 150w, but it is an 8 pin connector, meaning that you need a 2x 6 pin adapter(If you plan to continue to use that psu unless it only has 1 6 pin), or you can get a new high quality psu from a trusted brand. Otherwise, it most likely won't work.

Get a 6 to 8 pin adapter or replace the power supply. The 8 pin jack is known as a sense jack to provide extra current to the card

your psu is junk... never ever use cheap no name psu u have been warned seasonic prime series is way to go i would upgrade to it myself but my seasonic is 10/yo and still kickin chicken

To summarise what others have said on here:

1 the card won't boot, because it can sense that only 6 pins are connected.

2 that's a no-name PSU and that's bad on so many levels. You need to discard it and get one from a decent brand. Some examples are Seasonic, Corsair and EVGA. There are others, but that's what I remember off the top of my head.

Also, ebuyer is a major website, but I never shop there anymore after some terrible customer service. scan.co.uk is great and won't let you down. Also amazon.co.uk is fine if you know the exact model that you want, the price is good and it's NOT from a Marketplace seller. Don't buy used, either.

Hope this helps. :)
