Perhaps with the PS3 security being compromised they are looking for an early release of their nextgen console?

Although it would be wise for them to make sure they don't F up on the PS4's security, so the best take their time.

Well they only had backwards compatibility on some of the PS3 models like the 60gb and they quickly discontinued that model. For sure though if it uses a modified cell cpu then compatibility will be easier for PS3 games.

I may have said this in another thread but i think 2012 is a bit soon like Kuro says there are still franchises to be wrapped up and games coming out.

Yeah, I'm not saying the PS4 would carry it for life, but to put out a fresh console without it wouldn't be smart. Also the 80GB models had it as well, but it was done through software, so it couldn't do quite all of the games, but most of them. I would assume they would take the software route this time. But if they truly stick with the cell processor, then backwards compatibility should be a breeze.
