OFFICIAL Rust (Discussion)

Well thats good to know.

Hey everyone, I have read a bit on this game and I am seriously considering purchasing it. But it seems like all the survival games right now have alot of problems. My main question is how long is the fun factor? I have heard from many people saying that its fun.... for a couple hours. Then it becomes very repetitive. Any input would help me decide. Thanks!

It is repetitive. But just because something is repetitive doesn't mean it is not fun. I think this is one of the most fun games out there at the moment. But I love the grind of harvesting resources and stuff. I have over 300 hours in this game since Jan 1st. Games rarely hold me for long so that says something for this game. The most fun is found on servers with around 10-20 players IMO. My server is pretty dead so its a good place if you want to just learn the game before diving into a more populated server.

Things that will make you get bored of this game:
1) You need to consecrate a lot of time for this game. Playing 2 hours every few days is just not possible. If you stop playing, your stuff slowly disappears.
2) Playing less than others on the same server means they are stronger aka they will overpower you and you wont be able to do much.
3) You need to play in a server like WhiteNoise's atm, because in highly populated servers its FULL of hackers and there must be an admin to ban those guys asap. Low pop servers ofc have less appeal to hackers and also gives you a chance to build a house without getting raided 24/7.
4) The game's graphics performance is average at best, its very buggy/ not stable. But its an alpha version...
5) Playing alone will easily get boring. Bring a friend or two and play with Skype talking at same time, its 10x better.

Personally I find the game repetitive in the same way LoL, Dota and WoW are also repetitive but still very appealing and addictive to most. Sure there are much less things to do, but minecraft proved that a survival game of this genre can hold strong. I'm really enjoying playing in Whitenoises's server cause I don't have to play endless hours to compete. Also, there is nothing more satisfying than hearing someone moaning for an hour on the chat window because you raided his base while he was sleeping (irl).

PS: I would like to thank whoever built me free staircase to the top of my building, I was bored to farm that wood for an extra staircase. Luv u <3

“Something we’ve wanted to explore for a while is the possibility of an internet-based item editor. We want to get it in a position where anyone on the team can edit items. Then we want to open it up to the public – like TF2 did with hats. Obviously items submitted by the public wouldn’t automatically appear in game. We’ll be looking through them, you’ll be voting on them, we’ll be editing and accepting them and making sure it all works.”

A total UI overhaul is also high on Facepunch’s list of Things Wot Need Doing despite the fact that other issues might seem more immediately pressing. There is, however, more to it than that. Newman explained: “Right now we’re restricted by the UI because we know we want to replace it eventually so we’re putting off adding things (like putting stuff in stuff, weight effects, etc) because we don’t want to write code to throw it away. The pass we’re doing on the UI should mean that we’re able to push even further forward.”

And of course, Rust wouldn’t be a videogame without farming. Ever since the medium was pioneered by hits like Farmwar and Pac-Man (Is A DIY Vegan), it’s been the heart and soul of “core” games. On that front, Newman simply said “it’s what it sounds like.” It is farming. You will farm.

I cannot wait for the next update. I want airdrops working!!

I have stopped playing, Maybe by the time it releases they will have the mechanics fixed and a enjoyable game.

the game might change but the people playing won't. You'll still get raided, killed and have all your shit taken. Thats just the way this kinda game is. This game is not for the faint of heart that is for sure! I've lost my shit enough that I should have stopped playing but I just enjoy it too much.

I wouldn't have stopped playing if I had enough time to play often enough that my shit doesn't decay by the time I log in next. If there were low-pop servers that had no decay or a long decay time, then I'd still be playing. As it stands now, I only have a few hours a week to game.

Was going to play some.. Is anyone else having issues logging in to Steam?

Brandon has more hours into DayZ and all of its spinoffs than anyone I know. He's definitely not faint of heart and understands what it is to explore, hoard and lose everything to some pecker head, probably more than most. His trepidation is one of the reasons I haven't bitten on this game yet.

Yea alex, Dayz has more to offer with mods and scripts but base building in this game is easier but the decay is WAY too short and with it being alpha and getting whiped or screwed up is a true buzz killer. I guess I am more of a arma fan due to being a veteran and love the military aspect of the game. I still cannot wait for the finished product of rust!

Steam is totally crapping out the past 2 days. There have been numerous 10min+ downtimes.

My first login of the day always fails, says servers are offline. Second try always works though.

Yeah steam has a sale going on and I thought maybe they were getting hammered. But I've been experiencing that same issue.

For the record I didn't mean to imply Bandon was faint of heart. lol I was just saying that generally speaking.

Mine logs in the first time, but it is taking longer than usual.

Any of you still play Rust? I still play daily. I don't play on my server lol but I do play. I keep thinking I'm going to get bored but I never do.

I just got the game. Mainly because of what you/white noise are trying to accomplish. Die a lot. Once to a bear. Once to a wolf I tried to kill with a stone hatchet. And a few times to starvation. I appreciate you allowing any naked guy on your server. Would really like to team up with those whose stories I have been reading. And enjoying. Alas I too only get a little time to play due to job and home responsibilities. But starting over every time does not bother me. It is a fun game. Reminds me of an age of empires in 3d. Would like to play on your new server. Thanks for all your hard work so far.

Haven't touched it since my last post in this thread probably. Meh...I might go back to it later but CS:GO has been holding my attention just fine.

I said I was stopping and I did. I have not played since your last server suddenly vanished.

I think i explained this before brandon but I will toss it out there again. The last server vanished at no fault to me. One day i was playing on the server and the next day i couldn't find it in the server list. I then attempted to login to my account for the game server via my host (Nitrous Networks) and my login wouldn't work. I then sent them an email and the following day they told me that they (Nitrous) collectively decided that they would shut down all of thier USA servers. The had decided that due to DDOS attacks running rampant in the USA that they could not offer a good experience to us so they shut them all down.

The kicker is though they didn't tell us server owners ahead of time (most likley because they didn't want all of us cancelling our servers and receiving a refund) They purposfully left us in the dark and cancelled us at the start of the new payment date.

I was pretty pissed about this but what could i do? Well I selected a new server host (BMRF Servers) and bought a new server which includes DDOS protection. It costs $45 a month compared to $15-25 that all the other servers cost but the protection is worth it. My server has not been down once. Of course only a few people currently play on my server but whatever...

I haven't wiped since I bought this server on March 4th and I don't plan to ever wipe unless the game devs make me due to some huge world changing game update. When that happens then I will wipe or my server won't run properly. The game is in alpha and this shit must be done from time to time.

I would love to see any of you guys come back when you decide to play again. As of right now it's back to be a friendly easy going lets share and trade server. The whole 3-4 people playing on it anyway lol.

Oh no I didn't mean it was your fault I understand the situation you were in. I just think its still too alpha just as dayz standalone is. Not pointing fingers are you man

Gotcha. Speaking of day Z standalone.... I used to play the mod and I liked it when I could get it working. I've been looking at DayZ standalone videos and it looks great. Is it not worth playing yet? So tempted to pick it up.

Also is there anyway to save your crap when you log out of Day Z now?

Updated server to run NO SLEEP. Just a FYI.
