hello.

so, i was trying out a new MSI X370 XPOWER BIOS which apparently has the new Ryzen microcode. before the BIOS update i was able to OC to 4.0GHz with voltage set to 1.3875V (actual voltage was around 1.41V). after the BIOS update. anything over 3.7GHz and this system crashes (freezes with black screen) when stressed test it, regardless of what I set the voltage to. reverting the BIOS to previous builds doesn't help. resetting the BIOS and reentering the settings doesn't help. dropping memory clocks to auto doesn't help.

i dropped the CPU into an ASRock taichi, same thing. no OC.

does the new microcode require something special? i'm out of ideas here.

I've been having problems trying to stay stable at 3.9Ghz. Very rare crashes, Prime runs for 40mins fine, Real Bench crashes in under 3 minutes.

@Finners and others @HTC suggested memory may need looked at. Perhaps the new microcode has affected memory timings, throwing the whole OC of the chip into instability?
Try OC without memory increase and see how that flies. Does your new microcode let the mobo record proper temps (as of Ryzen Master 1.01)?

Did you check if anything was changed in the carebear settings? VRM thresholds, power ceilings, etc?

everything was always on auto. if the auto settings changed, i really wouldn't know. the only things i changed myself were the clock ration and voltage.

haven't tried realbench or prime. only tried cinebench, and it crashes almost instantly.

i'll try a different memory set

and yes, i can see the real temps now. CPU idles at 29*C. ambient temp is about 24*C

1.3. i only updated recently in hopes of being able to use G.Skill 3200MHz CL14 memory. so while it may be old, i only got around to it last week. i also tried 1.4, a BETA BIOS, but MSI has since taken it off their forum.

I have the save update on my msi x370 SLI plus and have no issues running my 1800x at 4.2OC stable.

Go to the over-current settings and out of curiosity, max everything CPU+RAM-related out. (PWM switch rate, phase control, voltage/current protection, etc). Then try again with your previous settings.
As mentioned above, i doubt it's that, but just in case.

@saikamaldoss you don't have the same mobo
