The x850xt is a legendary card, R480 core, and 1.6ns memory...

The Artic Cooling, ATI Silencer 5 rev.2 is the way to go for this card.

On my x800gto2 (x850xt renamed) It's effective enough to keep my R480 below 60c @ 1.55v 630mhz, and lets me overclock the ram like crazy. On a cool day, i can push up to 642/672 with some more voltage. Downside being that the thermal pads on the ram can take a while to bed in and work effectivly.

question: Why is the 6800GS even being compared to the x850xt... there's no competition there :p

Thanks man. I never knew my card was so highly thought of. And im comparing with the GS because some doofus reckons his 6800GS is better than my X850XT. What a dumbass. But basically, by the vote count, it looks like ive won, but I want lots more votes to roll on in :) I hope to get the ATI silencer soon.

I can't stand an all business chart, I don't think that a pure hilarity chart will be THAT good, so I'll just do a nice mix. Oh yeah and it will be done purely in MSPaint. No professionalism here :).

Personally, I'd reccomend www.newegg.com, but something about ebuyer says that you live in the UK :p. If I were you, I'd turn to a search engine and look up ATISilencer5. There'll be a TON of hits, and hopefully a lot of people selling it.

LMFAO!!! Fanboys! I stated your precious X850 was the better card,. But the 6800GS PCI-E is one of the best overclocking cards out. It stays right up to your precious X850. Geez..

6800GS isnt anything special. Sorry but only a dipshit would buy a 6800GS over a card like a X850 or a 6800GT. X850s usually quite comfortably reach 570 - 600MHz core speed. That alone is enough to stomp a GS let alone once you clock a X850s memory as well. A 6800GT will also piss all over a 6800GS, most 6800GTs comfortably reach 440MHz core speed and a minimum of 1.15GHz memory speed on a stock cooler. I'll admit clocking is an art though, and if you want big easy numbers a 6800GS can do that. For performance however, nobody in their right mind would pick a 6800GS, especially as a GT is right around the same money mark, hell more often than not I see them POS 6800GS cards selling higher than a GT.

About the thermal resistance question?

Lower thermal resistance is better.

A very accurate chart showing the superiority of ATISilencer5 to the X850XT Stock Cooler.

EDIT: Thats a " .59*C/W" and a ".51*C/W" lol. Oh yeah and by "blowing", I mean "blow drying" you pervs :p.

Hell yeah zekrahminator, that's a DAMN nice bar chart right there. I was thinking of saving for a DX10 card, but I know that all the DX10 games can be kicked back down to DX9, and the X850XT being such a powerful card, I though I would run the next gens pretty well, and I DIDN'T wanna wait to buy a new DX10 card, because I am not the waiting type. :) Now all I have to do is get rid of my 2 X1300's!

I had a X8500xt PE with a silencer on it

Its a fast card but in games like Elder Scrolls of Oblivion there is a big difference between it and my new Sapphire X1800xt 256 mb. The new shader 3 hdr effect makes the game look alot better than the bloom effect. Enjoy your x850xt its a great card however, if I was to do it over I would buy a 7600gt and overclock it. It is as fast as the x850xt when overclocked and has pixel shader 3. Its image quality is not as good as the x850xt but it costs about 30 dollars less with a rebate on newegg. Also pc magazine picked the 7600gt as the 9th best tech item of the year. You cannot go wrong with any of the cards listed in this thread, but I wouldn't buy a non pixel shader 3 card as an upgrade. Oh almost forgot the 6800gs is going for about 99 dollars with a rebate on newegg and that my friend is a good card for 99 dollars, and im not a geforce fan at all. For a 70 dollar difference between it and the x850xt why not get a 6800gs. Later when you buy a Sli system you could add a second 6800gs and with 2 your system would scream.
