Sapphire is readying a bundle of interesting new graphics products to be unveiled at this year's CeBIT event. Two such products that stand out include a non-reference design Radeon HD 5970 accelerator with 4 GB of GDDR5 memory (2 GB per GPU), and the HD 5870 Eyefinity6 2 GB. The HD 5970 model is particularly interesting, as its rival in the field, ASUS, will be showing off a similar accelerator called the ROG Ares "dual HD 5870" accelerator. Sapphire however, prefers to call its creation a custom Radeon HD 5970. It is expected to feature custom cooling, increased clock speeds (and probably overclocking headroom), and twice the amount of memory. There is a likelihood that Sapphire designs this along the lines of its high-end "Atomic" series that includes watercooling, and other exclusive features.

The other offering by Sapphire of course is the HD 5870 Eyefinity6. Probably sticking to AMD's reference design, the Eyefinity6 card is optimised for ATI Eyefinity setups with up to six physical displays. The card has six mini DisplayPort connectors, with which it can connect to each of its display heads. It features 2 GB of GDDR5 memory across a 256-bit wide interface. Using AMD Cypress GPU, it packs 1600 stream processors, 80 TMUs, and 32 ROPs. At the same event, Sapphire will show off several other of its new creations, such as the N450 netbook, Mini Projector 101, and mini-ITX form-factor motherboards supporting socket AM3.

Mini-ITX board with AM3 support. Interesting.

give me a 2gig 5870 and ill be happy :toast:

fochkoph is right, that is interesting.
Wonder what the max TDP it will support.

At most 65W. So the Phenom II X4 900e parts, Athlon II X2, and so on.

nice to see that Asus isn't going to be the only company making the 4gb 5970 cards -- hopefully the prices won't be much higher than the current 5790 --

750-800 US at least :shadedshu

Give me a 2 GB 5870 and individual game profile settings and ati will have a new customer...

AM3/ITX, thought I would have to wait til some time after the release for it, BUT HERE IT COMES!!! WOO Sapphire! Oh, and the Eyefinity and custom 5970 is nice too.

Finally talks of DX11 GPU's with more than 2GB RAM, I like it!

To bad there are no "good" games on the market that can use those 2GB. Hell, even 1GB is more than enough when playing a "console port" in HD resolution, and that even don't top 512MB...
I'm curious to see how many people game on 3 or even 6 monitors. ;)

Oh, my oh my. Well, It ain't actually a new thing, it's been around some time allready. I've used them in some of my HTPC customer designs, and it's really a sweet and functional thing:

The price is a bit steep though, here in Norway it's about 1500NOK, equals about $250..

Sapphire is a very good developer of AMD/ATi firendly hardware nowadays, wish they weren't "the only one"..

AMDfur

Thought it was going to be an 8-series ITX when I posted it, I should have read the source link :)

I know quite a few people who do game on 3 monitors but I don't think many games support it well.

Wait a video card with 4GB of memory, holy crap, thats epic

Well seeing as the DFI mini ITX motherboard can support up to 125W total, i'd say 125W is possible on an ITX board. Theres no way they'd release one that could only handle 65W, 95W would be the bare minimum.

what about custom 5870, 2G memory

I ran out of video memory on a simple looking game like Champions Online with my 1GB at 1920x1200. GTA 4 also has that issue, but it's horribly optimized, I'm sure there are other games when played at a high res, especially with Eyefinity, I wouldn't think 1GB would be enough for very many games.

For my system it's enough. :P

But for those Eyefinity setups you'll need all the memory you can get your hands on..

With Eyefinty I am sure we are running out of memory. Having to run some games at lower settings with no AA AF with a single 5970 @ 5870 clocks with 5760 x 1080. Alot of games can be made to run the correct res. Some do it with no hasstles some need some work. Thankfully most of the recent games I have played do it well.

I think we should be able to add memory on a graphics card just like
we can add memory on a motherboard.

I wonder what businesses will choose, the Eyefinity 6 or matrox's new card.

AMD could be making an ATI FireMV card that works like that Matrox card, while being cheaper.
