Well my Sappy 4870 has been given me headaches the last month or so .One day i looked in GPUZ0.47-0.48 and then .049 and my card was reading x8 on the x16 slot.Well i switched my cards around same thing only this morning the darn thing was reading x2 .So i took it out.

I have tried these (the first one worked for awhile.
1,flashed mobo bios to 1702
2,switched the cards around worked along with #1 for the last 3 weeks.
3,re flashed both the stock and the updated vid bios ....

Well i think the card is fu-bar (watch Tango and Cash for the meaning lol ) and it has no warranty anymore....So good thing the 6970`s are hopefully out next week.

At least the Palit 4870 was reading x16 in both the slots so that ruled out the mobo pic-e slots going bad. Any thoughts on what it could be with the Sappy? So i know what it is next time.

i thought they lowered the bandwidth to the slot when idling...

nope it should be reading x16 2.0 all the time it just lowers the 2d clocks at desktop. The pci-e slot should always read x16.the palit card does it. Strange thing is this has to be a bug in the mobo bios or the card itself. Will test the Sappy in my old M3A32 board but that is not until Monday .

One question: Does this issue come with performance problems?

I 've had this issue, and all I had to do was to reseat graphics card. Usually this happens when I change other expansion cards. You can also try cleaning Your cards PCI-E connector with alcohol, because Sapphire uses weird TIM material on memory chips, that tends to melt and leak all the way to the connector. It's transparent but sticky. Or take card out and use pressured air on mobo's connector to clean it from inside.

will try that out on Monday,Right now the palit was locking up too just playing CODBO:banghead: Will give me an excuse to use the air compressor;)

I usually notice stuttering in games, then look at GPU-Z (x16@x8) or worse and then reseat card.
I also have 120mm fan in case side that is blowing nasty dust on PCI-E connector, needed to clean it with air to fix this issue, because just reseating didn't work.:)

This is what it was thanks for your help,I will blow the slots out Monday, but for now the Cleaning of the gold fingers has worked.:rockout:
