To coincide with the much-anticipated North American launch of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots in late Q2 2008, SCEA will introduce a special PS3 bundle. The Metal Gear Solid 4 PS3 will include an 80GB PS3, the upcoming blockbuster Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, and a DUALSHOCK 3 wireless controller for $499.99 (MSRP). Followed by the introduction of this limited version Sony revealed another much-requested release date: SCEA will introduce the DUALSHOCK 3 wireless controller for the first time in North America in April 2008 for $54.99 (MSRP). Compatible with more than 100 PS3 games, DUALSHOCK 3 has both rumble and motion-sending SIXAXIS technologies. Of course Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots will be 100% compatible with the DUALSHOCK 3.

Any word on reverse compatibility?

God that $55 on a Dualshock controller makes the Wii controllers look cheap.:shadedshu:shadedshu:shadedshu

I thought that they were going to be discontinuing the 80B PS3 though?

Actually...

Wii remote ($40) + nunchuk ($20) = $60

x360 Wireless Controller ($40) + Rechargeable Battery Kit ($20) = $60

And the 80gb PS3's sku (which is bundled with Motor Storm) has been discontinued...but that doesn't mean that the 80gb itself is gone.

from what I recall though the wii remote is $29.99 and the nunchuk is only $19.99 which =$50 though i may be confusing the prices.

The rechargable battery kit allows you yo have not just one but 2 rechargable batterys for the 360 controller (the original one plus the one that comes with thr rechargable battery pack.

But doesn't the shipped 360's wireless controller uses two AA batteries? To my understanding, the packaged wireless controller with the 360 console does not come with the rechargeable battery back nor the cable to recharge it (i might be wrong about the cable, for how would you do wired connection?).

The normal PS3 controller is $50 too, just like the Xbox360 and Wii remotes. The Dualshock is only $5 more, it isn't really that big of a deal.

Edit: Ktr is correct, the basic controller just comes with 2 AA batteries. You need to purchase a seperate play and charge kit to get a rechargable battery and charging cable. The Wii controllers also don't come with recharable batteries, or a way to charge them. The PS3 controllers are the only ones that come as rechargable standard.

What he is getting at is that the PS3 controllers already have a rechargable battery built into them.
The XBox360 controllers do not.
So a PS3 controller w/ Dual Shock is like buying an Xbox360 controller w/ battery pack.

Correct, the controller that comes with the xbox and the seperate controllers are all aa batteries. You can buy recharge kits.

Funny thing is I got my DualShock3/Sixaxis ceramic controller from Japan for 49$ shipped and all.

Well it looks like you and I need to get together so I can get sed controller. Ill need a hookup on where to find it. $55 is unbelievable for a controller. Hell the 49 bucks for the Sixaxxis itself is ridiculous. I just got a chillstream pad and called it a day <G>

Well my Xbox 360 Halo 3 Limited Edition came with both the AAs and the rechargable battery pack but then again that could have just been a special incentive to buying the Halo 3 360 edition so who knows.
Also my halo 3 Limited edition 360 also came with a Play and charge kit as well.

Well said

the controllers really dont cost that much to make but its the one of the ways the console manufacturers see themselves as making a profit from. They really will not see any reason whatsoever to be lowering their own set prices on the controllers (remember all 3 console manufacturers are at the end of the day trying to make alot of money.)

Well, they have to have a way to make money, and so do the retailers. Retailers make around 5-10 dollars on a console they sale to customer. Where the retailer makes the money is the accessories, warranties, and a little bit off of games.

Yes, but when you buy just a wireless controller, you just get the controller and 2 AA batteries. You have to buy the Play and Charge Kit seperately, or at least a rechargable battery if you already have the charging cable.

A black wireless controller is $50 and just the battery is $15. Thats $65 for a controller and battery. The play and charge kit is $20 so that is $70.

Reminds me of how they charged 200$ for the HD player, 100$ for the wireless adapter, and various more amounts of money for the HDD. All happen to be proprietary.

179.99 dollars for the proprietary MS HDD

vs these non-proprietary HDDs for the PS3 (all with tons more space and less money):

(I could do the same comparisons with other xbox products, but I'm not going to start some flame war)

Opps did I forget Xbox Live payments...Oh the proprietary headset...left that one out.

MS has a clever way of doing things unless you really do your research.

I think they are $49.99 retail at Best Buy, but Newegg and places sell them for around $39.99, and even seen them going for $37 at times.

Here is the box art...looks damn nice.

Ill admit the harddrive is ridiculously overpriced but the HD DVD add on was not. Also you get a free headset with every xbox 360 dummy.
Also XBOX LIVE playments are so worth paying $50 for it. You just havent a clue Ravenas. If you played on Xbox LIVE for one straight week and then tried to go back to the Playstation Network you would feel pretty mad at sony about all its missing features.

btw thats some pretty cool box art nice find KTR

I completely disagree. I had a 30day free trial of Gold, so not worth $50/yr to play online. I'll stick with free and less stat tracking from PC or the PSN, tyvm.

I would defiantly agree with you regarding that XBL is worth it during xbox and the ps2 generation. The playstation 2's online was not unified, and required you to make separate logins with each game. As a result, you have to make new accounts, remember those accounts, and no common buddy list.

Sony realized their mistake and started PSN, which is unified. And with Home coming very soon, it will make PSN a complete online community/service equal to XBL...and for free.

You could do that, but you could also buy Non-Sony branded controllers which are always way cheaper, we are talking about the prices for Microsoft branded stuff here, and what it costs to get the equivalant through Microsoft parts.

And yes, the controllers are cheaper on places that charge below MSRP. Guess what, that argument doesn't help you one bit. But are you smart enough to know why?

It doesn't matter that the headset comes with it, if you want another one without the wire connected to the controller it's a complete rippoff. Besides that, they are proprietary.

I could do the same comparison as above for any xbox product. The Xbox 360 is like the old Apples where everything was proprietary.

I played on Xbox Live for a straight year (on the same connection I am on now), and I still completely disagree with you. It is no better than the PSN network. KTR is right, the PS2 had its flaws, but the PS3's PSN is near flawless.

With Home coming Xbox Live players are finally going to start realizing that they are getting ripped.

EDIT:
You just havent a clue Ravenas.

Why can't you chill with the personal attacks?
