Is there any way that I can capture a screenshot of a movie when I'm watching it on my computer as an avi file? Thanks.

Power DVD has a feature for screenshots, you can even make pictures of your movie with the demo version

The problem has to do with overlays. Just turn off hardware acceleration for your videocard and you can make screenshots using all the usual ways, turn it back on after.
