Once again hello to the community of Tech power Up Forums.. Today i have come across a problem and i want your opinion on it..

So i had some up and downs while i was searching for a good portable speaker and what i have see was a bit shocking. It seams most self-powered speaker are not able after certain volume to out put clear voice and the whole speaker starts to sound really bad.. expect if you go to pay a 'huge' amount of money to get something good.

But because i dont have that kind of money i was staying around 300-400 Euros-Dolars

When ever i was hearing Self-powered speakers after i go above the 60% of volume the music started to sound like trash (Example of a Self Powered speaker is the ibiza sound PORT15VHF-BT Portable PA Speaker System)

But when i i heard some other Normal Powered speakers like the (SONY GTK-XB7B)
i was blown away not only from the sound quality but also i was at 100% volume but the speaker didnt even flinch

So ladies and gents this is where you come in.. what do you think about this.. are all the Self powered speakers like this (bad at loud volumes and unable to deliver good party quality)

Or the Normal Powered speakers are better (Very good at loud volumes the quality remains good but they dont have a battery)

Oh and thank you for your time

I've voted 'Normal Powered speakers', and I'd suggest you try the JBL LSR305 which is one of the better ones at its price range. I couldn't find it here in my neck of the woods, but found something I think sound about as good as the LSR305 at about the same price, a pair of KRK Rokit5 G3....

Another option is to buy a pair of passive speakers and getting a relatively cheap amp (from SMSL, Topping) to power it. I went such a route on my other setups on my other desk...my Virtue One next to my mouse for scale, it's one small amp (and there are even smaller amps out)

That little amp easily powers my Jamo Classic 4 (got the combo cheap....they're used though)....due to my camera flash, the wood veneer looks plastic-like, it doesn't look like that in 'person'. In fact, it looks pretty good to me....

+1 for "normal powered speaker". I went with a budget 2.1 setup that focused around a Denon 1613-AVR, then a pair of Pioneer SB21's and a Dayton SUB100 10" Powered Sub...that combo is 3-4 years old and going very very strong. Right now it's the entertainment center sound system... the original combo was a Class-T Dayton amp, that in the grand scheme of things really sucked...and it was 1/2 the price I got the Denon AVR for! The Denon destroys it...granted AVR's are huge for a PC desk..I made it work for a while and it worked very well.

Frankly go try what you can still, and keep researching to see what will work and sound good to you. :toast:

What do you mean with self powered?

Edit: Ah, active. Sounds strange you haven't heard them go over a certain level. I am 100% sure that is down to the model.

That changes everything. I assumed you meant active vs passive but you really meant battery powered vs corded.
