So I have an FTP setup on my main rig to transfer files between that and my laptop, and had a couple questions about settings. First of there is a setting for TCP/IP Buffer setting that allows me to allocate xxxxMB to the receive and send buffers, and in program can change the priority from normal, to high, to realtime, to idle. Default buffer size is 4MB, and increases/decreases by 512KB, default priority is normal. How would increasing or decreasing the size of the buffer and possibly changing the priority of the program improve the overall speeds of my transfers, which will be files of all sizes, from MP3's to large video files(8GB+). The largest MP3 I have seen go was about 17MB, and took 4 seconds. Both the laptop and PC are wired to one router with 100MB LAN, (could do a long wire down to my router with GB LAN, but would take away net for a roomie).

I prefer this rather than networking since no matter how hard I tried with 3 Windows 7 based PCs/Laptops on one router, I couldn't get anything to work, and I access my files out side of my house.

Thanks in advance for the help.

if you incress the buffer size, more of the infomation will be stored in ram before being written to the HDD, so if your using your HDD a lot more buffer will help in that situation.

but since your only on 100MB lan you shouldnt notice any difference.

priority wont help either.
