Hello im having trouble playing games that use shader model 3.0,my card is old but according to ATI it supports 3.0 the card is a radeon ATI sapphire x1650 pro 512mb.
Im also running XP sp 3,is the issue with my OS or maybe a driver issue?
I do plan on upgrading it as and when i can aford to but in the meantime i would like to play some new games :( any help is appreciated, thx in advance

list the games including patches, resolution your playing at, what driver being used, have you updated direct X even

What games do you want to play or are having problems with?
That card supports directx 9 so any game that use direct10 or higher will not work.

please give system specs too

thx for the replys the game is called Raiderz and minimum requirements says directx 9 but recomended requirements is directx 11,i know my puny card isnt quite up to playing on max settings etc but i just cant figure out why i cant run it despite meeting the minimum req

Dell dimension 5150 desktop win xp sp 3 2gb RAM ATI x1650 sapphire pro (dont laugh to hard :P)

Can you explain what happens when trying to run the game? Do you get any error messeges.

Try updating directx http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35

Also have you made sure your graphics drivers are upto date? http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownlo...px?type=2.4.1&product=2.4.1.3.13&lang=English

Ok directx was alreay up to date and i have now installed the latest drivers,CCC shows this as the driver info etc

AIW/VIVO WDM Driver Version 6.14.10.6238
AIW/VIVO WDM SP Driver Version 6.14.10.6238

Ok now what happens when you try the game? Does it try to load then fail or does it give any error at all

Ok directx was alreay up to date

are you SURE? i've made threads on this, because a lot of people get that wrong. have you recently ran the web updater to check for the latest DX?

last DX 9 updates were in June/July 2010, he needs to get the redist and use it, webupdater is horrible for software updates.

This seems to be a newer game that doesnt have minimum system requirements posted yet.

Since that is a PCI Express System- You can get a better video card- aslong as the Powersupply can handle it.- You definitely need a Current Generation 500 watter-

You know what CPU is in the system?- If You dont get the Program CPU-Z. Seems Highest Supported would be the Pentium D, Core 2 seem to have voltage issues with that specific motherboard.

If You plan any hardware upgrades you might be better off Building an APU based system than it would be worth to upgrade that 5150

^ the thread i mentioned earlier. june 2010 redist was released mid 2011, so its been updated without the name changing.

ya i added more for the OP to read- this system is pretty long in the tooth and without mimimum spec requirements not listed we cant determine where his issue lies despite the video card being circa 2007 and already a middle range card (1950 XT being the fastest of the time).

Plus that model machine runs anything from a Pentium 4 5XX or 6XX series CPU (LGA 775) which there is no guarantee a Core 2 will work in there, Pentium D is just a P4 dual core (already slow anyway)

Minimum Requirements
Operating System
Windows XP / Vista / Windows 7 (32-bit)
CPU
Dual-Core CPU at 2Ghz or faster

RAM
2GB or more

Hard Disk
6-12GB of Free Hard Drive Space. 20GB or more of free space preferred

Graphic Display
DirectX 9.0c level GPU (GeForce 6000 or Radeon HD1000 series or newer) with 512MB Video RAM or more

Sound Drivers
DirectX 9.0c level compatible sound card. DirectX 10 or 11 preferred

Network
Best online experience will be on a non-throttled, wired, fast, and stable broadband Internet connection

* Requirements subject to change at any time without notice.

Looks like the minimal ati card to use is a HD1000 or newer so could this be why the game wont work for the op?

If he has a Single Core (Pentium 4 5XX/6XX) thats the other issue, that HD1650XT is already at best a middle range card for that generation (1950 Would do better, a 4670 would do the best for AGP but without a Multicore CPU that machine will run this game sluggish anyway)

Minimum means at a lower resolution with the textures turned way down to minimum too.

It might be best to start fresh on a build and use an AMD APU.

he won't be gaming on that period
its not even a Stream-processor based chip it still uses hardwired pixleshaders lol
there is no such card as a HD1000 either the game is some Chinese run free2play thing so I doubt they even know what there talking about when the wrote the min system specs

HD 1000 would mean HD1K - meaning his x1650 is in that range of hardware.

we do need to find out his CPU or more specific error messages.

pardon I meant a better PEG card, i just remember x1K being the AGP series for most part

Nope.
The X1K were native PCI-E cards.
You might be thinking of the generation before that.

I was thinking of the card in my Sig rig.
