Should I calibrate my CPU Intel Dual Core 2 Quad Q6600?

Hi all,

I got a hand me down PC from my brother :) which I am happy about, this is my first post and my PC knowledge is fairly basic but not afraid to have a go!

These are the specs:
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz G0,
4 x gb DDR2 1024 MBytes PC2-5300 (333 MHz)
Gigabyte EP45-DS3P Bios F5
Radeon 4800 (I will upgrade to 5870 Radeon to keep in theme of my retro setup)
Windows Version Microsoft Windows 10 (10.0) Professional 64-bit (Build 14393)
DirectX Version 12.0

The test was completed in room at 17 degrees

The reason for my post is that I was worried about my CPU temps (idle high 40s) so I changed the stock intel cooler and put on a Coolermaster Hyper TX3 and new thermal paste - my temps are now in the 40 range so not much of a difference.

I then started reading this forum and in particular CPU calibration - can someone please show me a guide or assist me to improve my temps in particular to calibrate- I have posted screenshots below:

Also any other matters I should now from the report below - I may oc it down the track - just a little

Load temps are more important. Some motherboards decrease the fan speeds at idle so you might be getting higher then normal idle temps.

These 65nm chips can easily take 85+ degrees no prob, as long as you keep them below 90 you will be fine.

It's not like you can keep it running at 100% all the time.

When I had a C2Q 6600, I had the same problem. As I recall a lot of the C2Q's had a oval shim which gave different temps on the cores. I used a Polimatech Megahelem cooler and that made the temps within 1 degree instead.

Honestly, I wouldn't worry too much. You can re-install CPU cooler and re-apply thermal paste. Keep in mind that CM TX3 is not high-end cooler, so such temps shouldn't be surprising. It's possible to lower the temps for a degree or two with quality thermal paste such as Arctic MX-4.

I then started reading this forum and in particular CPU calibration - can someone please show me a guide or assist me to improve my temps in particular to calibrate- I have posted screenshots below:
what do you mean "Calibrate" ?


These 65nm chips can easily take 85+ degrees no prob, as long as you keep them below 90 you will be fine.

It's not like you can keep it running at 100% all the time.

What got me concerned was the different core temp on the sensor movement test all sectors where different temps - i put my cpu fan at full speed via bios
not worth it ... you are going to kill the fan prematurly .... :slap:

can you list all specs for that Rig?
such as case, cooling, and all the hardware? maybe with some corrections we could set a decent or better airflow for achieving better temps..

also if possible fill this!

Same here. I'm guessing it's some way to make sure the temp sensors are accurate, but I've never seen calibration in either hardware, firmware/BIOS or software.

have never heard that worl related to computer hardware... not even for cooling

Only Intel "calibrates" your CPU, that is when they decide how many cores they will disable and if you don't have K cpu adjust min/max multiplier. Basically bending over your CPU and giving you what's left.

I wish you could calibrate the CPU sensors! I have one with goofy sensors I know aren't even close to right, but because of one being abnormally high I wondered if it hit tjmax if it would throttle my processor.

Why would you do this - it could have been the case that C3 C4 is reporting more accurate temps than C1 C2. There is no easy way to tell which one is off or even if the sensors are off or not.

And if you are those people who loves uniformity I would suggest raising C1 C2 instead of what you are doing now just to be safe.

That is very very very normal. You cant expect the same temperature for each core. it just doesnt happen with 4+ core CPUs.
