Should I disable integradted GPU with new dedicated GPU?

Just because? No. It is my opinion it should be disabled (or remain disabled) because there is no benefit, advantage or reason to have a graphics solution running with no monitor attached.

I mean why keep it enabled under those circumstances?

Are there situations where it is running when you have a discrete card and no Lucidvirtu/iGPU multi-monitor enabled though? By default, with a discrete GPU, the iGPU is disabled unless I enable it.

What Im saying is, I don't believe it to be enabled from what I have seen (on 2 boards). Are you seeing it on yours in the device manager when things are left at default?

EDIT: Quick question... if you disable it and your dGPU goes down, not only do you have to switch cables, but, wouldn't you have to enable it? Does it auto sense a connection on the boards ports and enable it?? Or would you have to reset the CMOS as well in order to set it back to auto/enabled?

(done editing, lol, sorry)

If you disable it specifically in BIOS, it will not re-enable itself when there is no dGPU. You will need to reset CMOS to get it back.

NO!!!! That is not true at all! It may not affect performance but it sure is not going to make the CPU run cooler.

Read it again Bill...You really try to hard sometimes...He said the EXACT same thing you are now parroting which I agreed with him...

Sounds like another reason to leave it on auto...I haven't seen a good reason to waste a mere 30s of my life disabling it in 30 posts... anyone else?

Auto-disabled iGPU by dGPU does not use any RAM as far as I can see. Therefore, no, I do not see a compelling reason to specifically disable it in BIOS.

I dunno I have always just disabled it on the intial build. I have a dGPU it's pointless just like I disable all the extra crap like Marvell hubs, FIrewire, you get the idea.

I used to disable that stuff too.. Now.. not so much... ever. the last time I did that, I nearly pulled all of my hair out trying to figure out why some port didn't work, LOL.. then realized I disabled it.. hahaah!

I notice now he is using a Q77 based board. I wonder if more modern boards now keep it disabled or what... I never recall seeing both at once unless I specifically enabled it and installed its driver...

I dunno I'm still stuck in the old DMI pool days and just try to keep it all to a minimum despite it not really mattering anymore. I'm sure I'm saving a watt or two...

I did. It is not going make the CPU run cooler!

Yeah you cherry picked it. My answer was to his loss of performance which there is none .

Okay, so I cherry picked one half of his comment, you cherry picked the other half! :toast:
