Hi, recently i have bought gigabyte rx 6800xt. It looked fine ( gpu tests etc.) After testing it in my pc i noticed it had White led's turned on ( Power issue according to manual ) and gigabyte logo wasn't working at all. Seller said it is issue with gigabyte's software. I was testing it in furmark / occt everything was fine at first glance.

Now the problem starts:

- There are days when i start pc my monitor says there is no signal. I figured out how to start it. I don't know why it works but it works.... ----> I go to bios change ram speed from factory 3000Mhz to 2130Mhz. After that my monitor "sees" signal and i can get to desktop. Restart again and change form 2100Mhz to 3000Mhz.

- There are days when no matter what im doing it just freezes when watching youtube / playing games ( have 2 monitors ) and i see black and green screen i cannot do anything.

- There are days when it works just fine (?) without any crashes - can run furmark / occt for hour long no issues at maximum gpu power (305W).

- tried to install amd radeon rgb software and it not recognizes that it is amd card (lol)

Cannot return card. In my country if you bought from person, not company you cannot return it sadly, even it's broken / not as described...

What i've tried:

-changing diffrent PSU / PSU cables / Motherboard and CPU / RAM / Changing GPU speed

What i have found:

- Today accidently i have found in gpu-z that the graphic card bios is "unknown" so i started digging and SIV64 was able to show me proper bios version and it is: 020.001.000.049 which does not belong to this card, gigabyte rx oc uses: 020.001.000.044.000000 ( https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/230982/gigabyte-rx6800xt-16384-201112 )

My question is: may bios flash fix my issues with stability and broken led lights, and how to do it safely?

I believe theres 2 vbios on that card...

You can't ask that in a forum... this a user decision only.
We dont know what else have be done to the card, we don't know of there's other problems besides a vbios mismatch, etc...so no one can really confirm this... as obvious.
Also, using the correct ID on labels (Ex: GV-R68XTGAMING-16GD), theres several vbios updates on Gigabyte support, depending on model.

Also, upgrade GPU-Z to 2.57

And enable Smart Access Memory..

Did you not see it working before you bought?

So.. it works? You can run a game on it and then its crashes?

Maybe paste the GPU..?

Tested it today with SAM option seemd stable, but at the end of the day it crashed randomly twice in games.

Ok.. so it works for a bit then crashes. Could be a thermal issue. It could also be a PSU, if its not big enough. But I would start with pulling the heat sink off and re-applying thermal paste to the GPU. Be careful not to damage the thermal pads for the memory. If there are no thermal pads for the memory, then that is the cause of your problems.

Tought so but gpu is reaching at maximum 70*C. Currently have 850W EVGA GQ, before tested with beQuiet 750W. Sometimes it can crash when i try open first app just after starting my PC. And sometimes im able to run GPU stress test for hour long without crashes, it is totally random.

Hmm.. Did you use DDU when installing the graphics driver? Have you tried reseating the graphics card? Are you sure its the GPU crashing?

as for the BIOS did you try the new version of GPUz and is the Bios shown there?

I have an 850w EVGA (something model, gold rated, might be same as yours) and it couldn't handle the power spikes from my old 6800XT. Switched to the HX850 and issues went away.

Similarly, my 1300GT couldn't handle my 7900XTX so personally I wouldn't run RDNA 2/3 on EVGA.

Hi,
Make sure the eco switch on the psu isn't activated
850 I believe it's on the inside near the wiring plugs
In that place it's easy assembling to switch on or off lol

Most higher wattage ones the eco switch is near the power plug cord so easy to see this one.
But eco should be off and fan will run.

Eco just tells the fan to turn off on low loads or if thermals are in check. Think GPU fans when they cool down. (Zero RPM mode)

Latest GPU-Z still doesn't see Bios. Before have been using gtx 1080 for 5 years, after upgrade to rx 6800 problems started so it's 100% gpu issue. Im not sure if it is problem with PSU because crashes occured when PC wasn't overloaded like playing Youtube video. Tried DDU twice.

I have switched to "OC bios" and according to siv.64 (only program that managed to read bios) it has correct bios. But still it behaves the same as "silent bios"

GV-R68XTGAMING OC-16GD - on the label

That BIOS's version, build date and time corresponds with the one you linked in your original post, so it seems that at least that one is correct for the card, which is progress.

Can you try following these steps to ensure the driver is properly installed, and after that see if GPU-Z reads the BIOS version or if the behaviour improves?

I could not uninstall drivers using device menager because it was constantly installing itself back all the time. I used DDU to uninstall, drivers and i was able to see in GPU-Z BIOS version, but after i installed AMD drivers back, again it sees Unknown version....

Edit: It just crashed when i oppened adrenalin app.

Did you reboot after uninstalling the driver?

What version of AMD drivers?

Maybe time to reinstall windows.

Rebooted after uninstalling and rebooted after installing drivers. What is funny it crashed during driver installation and both monitors had no singnal, so i had to repeat everything. Tried newest driver ( 23.12.1 ) and 23.11 Both work the same.

Disconnect from the Internet to prevent Windows from being "helpful" and reinstalling the wrong drivers. Also make very sure that you check the "delete driver" checkbox.

If the options in DDU you can select to stop windows from updating drivers.

Also, you probably answered this, but I cant look back atm..

Did you use DDU to remove the Nvidia drivers?
