for my new build:

e6600
asus p5B deluxe
600 watt psu
8800 gts
antec 900
250 gig hdd
either dominator or mushkin 2GB of ram

I just wanna know which one is better and the advantages of each one. the dominator cost like 10 bucks more than the mushkin so i dont really care about the price. I am planning on doing heavy OC on my e6600 when i get it.

They are both excellent choices. Me, I would just pick the sticks that look better. Btw can you give me some links to the memory so I can check them out?

I would go for the DOMINATOR:D

There are better choices out there for cheaper these days.
Look at the high end G Skills or Buffalo Firestix which will run you $160-180 for a 2GB kit and they use Micron D9s.
These will be much better than either of those.

But if you had to pick I would say go with the Dominators as well.

so i would get roughly same performance from those G skills or Firestix?

You would get better performance out of those 2 kits.
The reason is bc they would OC a lot higher than the Dominators since Micron D9s OC much better than Epilida chips.

Overall, both of those RAM are cheaper than the Dominator and better :)

Also note, that Intel platforms gain more out of RAM with higher frequencies than tighter timings.
However, AMD platforms gain more out of RAM with tighter timings than higher frequencies.

also i see the fastest speed for G skill and Firestix is 1000mhz i am looking to get atleast 1066 so i can have more room for overclocking or would it not make much of a difference? and is kingston hyper good because i see that they go way up to 1200mhz modles

Hmmm I could recommend better RAM, but I was staying within a budget.
So what is your current budget.
The BEST brand of RAM that OCs the highest is Crucial Ballistix, but you do pay a premium for them.

Also, the Firestix I was talking about was the DDR2-800 RAM.
They will OverClock to anywhere between 1066-1200.
For $160 that is pretty damn good.

However, the Firestix DDR2-1000 RAM will OC well beyond that.
But they are a bit more expensive at $215.

how do i know what chips they use?

There are usually 2 ways to tell.

THe first is to take off the heatspreaders and look at the memory chips. However, this voids your warranty.

The second is to call up the company and ask.
Buffalo has confirmed that all of their Firestix are Micron D9s.
The only batch of Firestix that has EVER been Epilida was a batch sent last year to Microcenter ONLY.

G Skill has also confirmed that their high end modules are Micron D9s as well.

The Corsair Dominator series (the cheaper ones) do not use Micron D9s anymore.
THey use Epilida now, however, I believe the really expensive ones do use Micron D9s, but they go for $350.

Thats what I would get.
I wouldnt waste a hundred extra bucks on very similar performance

I would say the Mushkin but I am Bias. For stability and performance....

here is a recent forum post on our XP2-8500

I like Mushkin too.
However, these will easily get outperformed by the Crucial Ballistix and any other Micron D9s out there when they are OCed.

As I am aware, the only Mushkin that are made of Micron D9s are the Mushkin Redline series.
Am I right?

But Mushkin RAM is great, but you do pay a price for the quality service they offer.

we use it on our XP2-9200/ 8500/ 8000 and 6400 products. Each is binned out accordingly. I dont know how the performance of the others but I know ours does well. Here are more reviews
