hi all bought my GPU back in Jan, and it works perfectly, but up until recently it was idling in the 40's now its idling in the mid 50's . is this normal? maybe becasue the weather is slightly warmer i dont know, but a 10c jump in idle temps seems a bit high to me.

under load, playing games it gets up to around 78c ish, it was very clean when i bought it (used) no dust at all on the fins or fans , so not sure if its ever been repasted or not, but it was deff cleaned before i got it.
I should add, that i used DDU in safe mode to uninstall and then installed the latest drivers and no diff in temps.

I only have some MX4 avail so would that be suitable.
Any suggestions welcome, should i or shouldnt i ?

if the weather got warmer, it stands to reason the ambient temperature has increased, which would mean the internal temperature would increase.

to be totally honest, even cured solid years old TIM is effective, the ability to transfer heat isnt dictated by how fresh it is, its the bond & lack of air space between the chip & the surface of the heat spreader (as long as you dont break that bond, it remains effective).
repasting is never a bad idea, unless you dont know how to safely take the card apart, repaste & re-assemble it. keep in mind, thermal pads can break when taking a card apart, so if you can, having the ones you'll need on hand is never a bad idea. usually .5mm, 1mm, & 1.5mm & 2mm are the common depths. you can get them on amazon for real cheap as long as you dont fall victim to brand name only buyers syndrome.

fujipoly makes all sizes & theyre cheap & just as effective as others.

Hi,
I suppose if the fans were off the gpu would get hotter seeing most gpu's are on quiet mode meaning fans don't kick on until it's hot.
If fans are running and it's hot you may have other issues

Paste well mx4-2019 and their newest is pretty good
I'd also plan on thermal pads too seeing they do get damaged taking the card apart usually the memory pads
Arctic pads are just fine and you can get larger sheets 145x145mm because you will need three thicknesses 0.5mm/ 1.0mm/ 1.5mm and there is nothing cheap about fujipoly lol

Your temps are still in acceptable range, so I'd say no. Re-pasting a card isn't terribly difficult, but there's still a small amount of risk involved. If the temps are concerning, you could dial back the volts or clocks slightly to see if that helps.

when it was in the mid 40s, the fans never moved, now they randomly start for for a min or 2 and then stop again, im guessing the temp for the fans to kick in is around 55c ish, i cant hear them so it not a problem, i was just a little concerned at it going up around 10c on average, altho load temps seem to be around the same as before.
Maybe ill just keep an eye on it for a while and see if things change further.

Hi,
I only have one air cooled card all others are on water
On an air cooled card I always make a custom fan curve using msi afterburner because I hate the sudden on and off crap.

silent fan technology , keeps fans at 0 RPM while under a set temp, usually 40C-50c range.
then when that temp is reached the fans turn on, & run until the temp drops below 40-50C, then turn off again.

short of creating a environment where you can totally control ambient Temp, where it is totally unaffected by the outside weather, you'll see changes like this when temp, & humidity rises & lower.

dont sweat it
