I'm really close to buying another one now.

I want to setup a 1TB partition (cus I can :p) in Raid 0, for games, OS, etc
And then a 140GB partition in Raid 1 for all my Uni work, music, important data.

So is it worth £50 to get one?

Am I going to see an improvement in Windows boot time (7 boots really quick already, but I'm an impatient man! :D )

Plus I like the idea of having Raid 1 for my Uni work in case of drive failure.

I'm selling some stuff and I have bug to buy something for my PC, that is going to be of some use.

So convince me, or not as the case may be.
Maybe there is something better I could buy, or sell something I have an upgrade for £50.

Lmk guys! :toast:

It's not very expensive so I'd go for it. I have two AALS drives in raid0 and it's awesome

What are the differences between the AALS Green and AAKS Blue drives anyway?

the AALS drives are the caviar blacks. The difference between the blues, is that the blacks have 32mb cache and a 5 year warranty while the blues have 16mb cache and 3 year warranty

i vote get something else mate you already have a huge amount of storage, well compared to me haha and uni work can easily be backed up'd onto a 5 quid usb stick of ebay, then you have food for a few week haha

Its not for the storage space its for the speed.

And I have an 80GB external drive for backup, Raid 1 is just cus I'm lazy.

I just like to get rid of bottlenecks in my system, and IMO, RAID 0 AAKS would give me a speed boost :D

I would keep the OS and applications on a whole different drive then you would use for storage ...

What makes you say that?

back up purposes id gues, viruses tend to attack windows flders and files usually so a seperate drive or partion will help protect your personal data

Boot time depending on your RAID controller could take longer. For instance, my controller on my Maximus Formula takes FOREVER.

Really?

Last time I did RAID 0, it pretty much halfed my boot time.

And I was going to have a seperate partition.

I want to setup Matrix Raid, so Raid 0 on front for drives, Raid 1 at the back.

Stop being a nerd and get something else. Like a crate of beer and a house party.

Lol.

But I get a computer bug and feel the need to buy something :D

so have i, at the moment i want a 520 cosair, scythe orochi, a better keyboard, a new case, and some logi S220 but im not going to because (even though i have the money) i am saving to go to university. There are more important things than computers. Learn to control yourself

If you really want to buy something computery i would go for a sound card.

I have 2 WD640AAKS in Raid mate. I have them partitioned into 1tb for stuff and 200gb for os. They are pretty quick.

Go for it Irecknon

I say do it! I have raid 0 and I love it. I think I am gonna pick up a fourth drive for my raid setup and do the same as you. Have the windows partition as raid 0 and my backup partition as raid 1. Right now everything is raid 0. I love how fast my HDDs are compared to a single drive.

Cant see the point in a sound card, I have Logitech S220 speakers :D, great but wasted on a decent sound card, I think the ADI 2000 chip does a really good job anyway.

As much as I really want another drive for RAID, I'm not really going to get £50 benefit out of it, I have only ever half filled my 640GB.

Come to think of it, I cant see anything I need for my PC, maybe I will stick the money away and keep it for when I need to buy Win 7. Thats the only money I think my computer is going to need spending on it in the next 6 months :ohwell:

I have Logitech S220 speakers :D,

oh cool! how do you rate them??!?!

*Sorry for derailing*

EDIT - and why did i miss that when i looked at your specs?? odd

Do any of us need to upgrade our computers? No usually not but we still do anyways. But I see where you are coming from. I currently am stopping myself from doing any upgrades at the moment. I am trying to save all my money for college. Right now I am at a community college and I want to go to a University. Lately I have been pretty good at saving my cash but I must admit, its really hard to save it. Especially with some of the sweet deals I've seen lately.

Speakers are fantastic for the money, punching base, desktop control for on/off volume, headphones and mic.

Best speakers I have ever had, cant see the point in 4 or 5.1 if you cant set them up properly behind you.

They sound great for music and games a like.

Damn I need to rid myself of this PC spending bug! :banghead:
