Skullcandy's latest headphones are part throwback to one of their older, wired headphones from over a decade ago, part modern ANC headphones for long haul travellers. The Aviator 900 ANC has a very distinct design that is likely to cause divided opinions, but the most obvious feature is the two digits display that shows the battery charge level, except you won't be able to see it when you're wearing the headphones. Still, it might be handy for seeing the charge level at a quick glance, without having to unlock your phone and potentially even start an app to see the charge level. Other controls include a small joystick, a knurled, metallic looking volume wheel and a custom button. Connectivity includes a USB Type-C port for charging, a 3.5 mm audio jack for analogue input and Bluetooth 5.3 with multipoint pairing support. Sadly there's no mention of supported audio codecs on the product page, just that there's support for THX spatial audio with head tracking and a low latency audio mode.

Other features include Google Fast Pair and Finder, 60 hours battery life with ANC off and 50 hours with it on. A 10-minute quick charge is said to give you four hours of battery life with ANC off. The headphones are said to feature a sweat and water-resistant nano coating, but there's no IPX rating. The ANC uses six microphones and there's also wear detection. At 332 grams, making them almost 80 grams heavier than Bose and Sony's latest, high-end ANC models, but with over twice as long battery life. Skullcandy supplies a pouch that doubles as a small bag with a strap, a USB-C to A charging cable and a 3.5 mm audio cable with the Aviator 900 ANC. The headphones will be available around the middle of this month and have an MSRP of US$299.99/£249.99.

I loved the original aviators... so comfortable. I hope these are as well.
