Skype announced Skype for Windows 8 today, bringing together popular Skype features and the new design of Windows 8.

The release focuses on delivering an experience that is simpler, faster and easier to use. Skype for Windows 8 includes top Skype features like IM, audio and video calls. It also takes advantage of some of the new features and functionality of Windows 8 that put people front and center; including integration in to the People Hub, ability to pin favorite contacts as a tile for easy access and the Skype Live Tile that shows messages and notifications right on the Start Screen.

Skype for Windows 8 will be available on October 26. You can find it on your new Windows 8 device and or download it from the Windows Store.

What an awesome reason to upgrade windows!

/sarcasm

is it me or the UI really feels empty?

2.6$/minute !! Isn't that really expensive? I'm from ARG, so not really an idea of telephone fees in US, or AUS, but that does seem really expensive.

Edit:

it seems like 2.6 cents per minute.

You are right, I'm sorry.

Looks nice, more excited about the Windows Phone 8 Skype integration though.

And for the desktop just download and install the desktop client ;)

Remember that M$ can (and probably will) record your conversations and messages.

Which, will go straight to a nice shiny data center for the govt.

Stick it up your ass, M$

Great.
Now that Skype for W8 is done they can fix the broken Android/Symbian versions.

Can't wait to get Skype and say "Taliban are the best" to the microphone and watch the FBI and Spec Ops humvees arriving at my home, yeaaaaah!

BTW, did you know that your mobile phone talks are being screened since years? Just in case you didn't notice! :p

If that had been the case, I'd be arrested and sent to the US a long time ago, and my friends in the US would have been arrested and sent to Guantanamo faster than you can say "cake"

And meh, so what if they tape the convo's. If they want to review insanity and/or angry ranting back and forth, they can have at it.

Hell, the people at NSA at Fort Meade probably have a better idea about what you're doing, where you're doing it, why you're doing it and how you're doing it than you do any day of the week, Skype or no Skype.

God damn the tinfoil brigade is out in force in this thread
