I'll start with relevant system specs:

Code:
        Operating System
Windows 11 Home Insider Preview 64-bit Version 23H2 Build 25926.1000
        Motherboard
            ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. TUF GAMING B460M-PLUS (WI-FI) (LGA1200) 33 °C
        Graphics
            4095MB NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 (EVGA) 54 °C

So like the title suggests, over the last month or so I have experienced more than a few, albeit minor, errors that are GPU related.

At first I tried to enable DSR and when I went to change my resolution it would fail to do so. I did the run around with Nvidia support. I ended up figuring out that, for a reason still unknown to me, Windows was preventing me from choosing the larger resolutions; when I would try to do so via Windows Settings it would throw an error about not being able to change my resolution at this time. After a day or two of poking at different things I found online I threw my hands up and gave up.

Fast forward a few weeks later and I am looking into RTX Super Resolution; and whether or not Opera supports it, which from what I saw signs point to yes. I'm able to set it up fine in NCP, but from what I was reading a lot of people were suggesting to look at GPU utilization in Task Manager to see if it was actually working in Opera....to which I find out isn't working on my PC.

The header for GPU% appears to show accurate utilization, but the actual itemized portion of Task Manager all say 0%, even when it's reporting ~35% usage. I try to look at Performance Monitor and my GPU isn't even an option. I've noticed that randomly, for a split second, it seems to report individual usage correctly, but it returns to 0% almost immediately.

So given this I came here to try and use GPU-Z to peak at my GPU usage and when I try to install it nothing happens. No splash, no error message. It pops up in Task Manager long enough to see it and disappears. I did find an item in Event Viewer, but my Googling didn't really enlighten me at all. Here's that Event Viewer entry:

I would be greatly thankful for any suggestions. I've been banging my head against some of this issues for the better part of a month with no headway and I have to assume they're all related. I have tried DDU to no avail. I'm starting to wonder if my GPU is faulty.

What monitor do you have ? Did you maybe try to lower the monitor new dsr resolutions hz frequency's if the monitor cannot go the new DSR resolutions with as high frequency as your stock resolution

I mean if you have 165 hz 1440p but you use DSR 4k with 165 hz maybe that doesn't work

By the way did you test to use the new DSR resolution directly in games and not in windows settings ?

Graphics
4095MB NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 (EVGA) 54 °C[/CODE]

i think maybe gpu is fake? i dont think there is a rtx3060 with 4gb of vram

i might add if you could take a picture and show us the gpu physically, we can identify if it is fake or not?

Huh. I must have misunderstood something somewhere. I was sure I read that you wanted your native resolution to be the same as your game's to avoid issues, but you're absolutely correct. It seems to work fine in BG3. Thanks for that! One down. Lol.

I think this is my fault actually. I lazily just copied the information from Speccy. CPU-Z seems to report it being 12gb correctly. I can grab a picture shortly to be sure though.

ETA: Photos of my GPU;

Thats true there is no 4gb 3060 but maybe thats some error on the software reading the info about the card.

Can you open GPU-Z and send a screenshot of the card so we can see the full specs of the card and if it is recognized there correctly ?

Edit: Nevermind the card is normal rtx 3060 didnt see your post above...

Edit 2: So after you activate the DSR resolutions in nvidia control panel you should be able too see them in pretty much any game directly in the game graphics settings. So switching from there directly the resolution is the way to go if you want to use higher then nativ resolution in your games.

Good to hear it looks legit. That's a relief! Thata side, one of the issues I was having is GPU-Z doesn't want to launch. CPU-Z interestingly works fine though.

DSR does seem to be sorted, too, I originally unhooked and tried each monitor individually to weed out something related to the monitors out and have waved it since I thought it was unlikely all three of my monitors wouldn't work.....turns out I just misunderstood how the tech works.

All that's let to figure out is either to fix Task Managers extremely strange GPU utilization reporting or to figure out what GPU-Z doesn't like about my setup, so I can sus out if Nvidia Video Super Resolution is working with Opera (I've read the most recent version of Opera uses the right versions of Chromium to work, also read some reports it is functioning). I don't trust my eyes enough to not lie to me tho lol

Thanks for all the help so far!

ETA: An example of what I mean about Task Manager;

What gpu drivers do you use ? If those are old maybe try upgrade them. Benchmark the gpu with Unigine or something along those lines and compare the score to other rtx 3060 if the card gives you the performance or if it underperform in some form. Awso keep an eye on the temps if there is any anomaly..

That gpu-z doesnt run is really wierd. Maybe get a new version of it if you use some pretty old one and try update drivers if those are old as well. Other then that comparing the score from the benchmark you would know if the gpu delivers the performance that it should or if it underperform and something else may be causing problems..

Windows was preventing me from choosing the larger resolutions; when I would try to do so via Windows Settings it would throw an error about not being able to change my resolution at this time.
I suspect a Windows 11 Insider build bug. (If you have VSR disabled.)

I've already DDU'd and installed the latest Nvidia drivers unfortunately, and I have tried versions 2.54, 2.53 and 2.52 of GPU-Z. I will try running a benchmark in the morning, though I think RJ might be correct. I was hoping that wouldn't be the case, but it's def smelling like it at this rate.

Newest anomaly to this situation it that when I have a game open (BG3 atm) GPU utilization appears to report correctly for each task in Task Manager. This behavior is so bizarre.

This is what I am afraid of. There's also a solid chance it might just be my monitors being incompatible with higher resolutions or something. They're nothing special. I was under the impression it didn't really matter what kind of monitor you had, but I have learned my impressions where wrong at least once tonight lol

I think that @Hyderz is on to something. At worst, an RTX 3060 has 8GB of VRAM, not 4GB. That card is fake.

At first with the given information I thought it was fake but op provided photos and it was an evga card, there’s some issue with his system

If the card is verified to be real, then is it possibly a BIOS issue? I did have an RTX 3080 in the past and had no issues flashing a different BIOS onto it. The OP might benefit from reflashing the card's stock BIOS. Though as to how it received the wrong BIOS to begin with is beyond me. Maybe it became corrupt.

Well, after a bit of a break and coming back to fiddle with some things, I have seemingly figured out the core of the issue.

I decided to DDU again just to remove human error from the equation, but after the restart, before reinstalling my Nvidia drivers, I tired to install GPU-Z, and it worked; as did launching the program.

Went ahead and installed the most up-to-date GPU drivers, restarted, and now my installation doesn't work with the exact same Application Error in Event Viewer as I was getting before.

This has been an issue for at least two driver updates, so I'm not really sure rolling back three updates is a super wise idea. I don't have a media device large enough to make an installation device atm either, so I cannot float to a more stable branch of 11 or downgrade to 10 atm, as far as my understanding is.

Thanks for any ideas in advance, and also for all the help so far. I really appreciate it.

I don't think this is the issue. I'm not even sure I know how to do that lol I'll look into it tho. It is an ABS prebuilt so who knows what they may have done before shipping.

ETA: I did a bit of digging and HWInfo is reporting vBIOS Version: 94.06.14.40.45 [UEFI]. I have no idea if that's what it is supposed to be or not; I was able to find some listing on here that list that has their vBIOS version, though.

Unrelated, but also, a little fun bit; I went into Device Manager, disabled my GPU, ran GPU-Z, and it launches fine (though none of the GPU sensors work). Reenable the GPU with GPU-Z still open and it doesn't crash or anything (but still the sensors don't work). It still simply fails to run if I try to launch it though.

I would also do DISM making sure all my windows files are in order & not corrupted.
