Just came across this video from Computerphile which demonstrates how it's done. I love the presenter's zeal as he talks about it, lol. So cheeky.

Don't worry, any half decent website will have ways to protect against this.

most webservers have max connections per ip configurability that completely negates this as a single machine attack. if this attack works against your website please hire a competent admin.
