and besides, defragmentation has nothing to do with is and is just a waste of time and a strain on the disks. and to disable all services in msconfig, you must be really really crazy, for that is dead certainly gonna give you even more problems.

...I hope your joking...
Defragmenting is when all the files are rearanged to be one continuous file instead of "fragments" of files all over the partition to where the head of the Harddisk has to keep switching tracks. By defragging you make files 1 continuous "fragment" and it will be able to stream better. I always get faster bootups after I defrag.

u should run regular defrags as a matter of course.. but having spent years doing such things i cant say i have noticed much difference after doing it than before doing it.. the theoretical gains sound amazing but reality always produces a disapointing end result.. he he

the best way of improving a hardrive in my experience is to leave it mostly empty.. by a nice 36 gig raptor just put windows and a few basic apps on it and away u go.. put the rest of your junk on other drives.. i aint done this but i wil soon..

i didn't mean defragmenting in general was a waste of time, just in respect of this particualr issue. fragmentation is never going to give a 45 to 60 sec delay after boot up, so that is not the cause of this problem.
i would like to hear about the outcome of trying the ip-recipe i gave.

woe, must've done something wrong then. if you have a dsl dial-up connection, you need to leave that to automatically receive the ip address. what i said you should only set for the lan connection, your lan port.
also, if you are using a router, you can't set the ip just so, so lemme know about that, too.
if you do that and then test if you get a faster reboot, then you're a big step closer to resolving the problem (nevermind if the inet connection works or not at that point). if you don't get a normal reboot, then you can really drop this approach.

ok, then you must access the router config and give your pc a fixed ip there that complies with your router, and then use that ip for the procedure described earlier for the pc.
can u do that?

could ip config possibly slow down startup?
i use route too, but seems that fixed or assigned ip makes no difference

Is there any way I can just get into safe mode, and see what is starting up? And stop it, so I know what it is from now on? I don't even know my safe mode button don't never have to use it.

when no ip is set, then the system tries to locate a network to integrate itself in. this is skipped when you preoceed as described. and this is about the observed delay of 45 to 60 secs.
in explorer->extras->folder options->view you should also turn off automatic serach/detection of network folders.
i haven't had one machine to this day where this fix shouldn't have helped.

something else, if you have a bunch of peripheral usb devices, in particular scanner and printer, try starting the system with those turned off. if it makes a difference, then either the usb controller is not doing a good job or the system needs certain usb related fixes.

safe mode you access by pressing F8 during boot up. there you have several boot options, like load network drivers and confirm. tedious. if your life time is not so very precious to you, you might consider this an option, I sure as hell wouldn't.

good luck

i tend to switch my PC on as soon as i walk into the room.. i never sit down in front of it and then switrch it on.. thats my way of avoiding having to wait for the boot process to get done..
