I had an AMD Asus board that defaulted to 1.5v on "auto" voltage with a Phenom II 965 140-watt TDP version. I haven't seen an Asus Intel board jack voltages up that high, but that's not incredibly uncommon with AMD, even more so with higher TDP cpus. I don't think that this is the case here.
