SMART Modular Technologies, Inc., a global leader in specialty memory solutions, today announced that it has expanded its lineup of Enterprise Memory products to include DDR4 modules. SMART has attained an exceptional reliability level of sub-two hundred DPPM with its DDR3 RDIMM Enterprise Memory and is achieving similar levels with DDR4 during its internal development process for these enterprise grade modules.

This superior DPPM rate is accomplished utilizing a SMART proprietary Ultra-Reliability Test (URT) burn-in process. Early life failures and weak modules are eliminated through SMART's URT lab where every enterprise grade module undergoes a rigorous triple-stress process entailing hours of burn-in at high speed operation while running custom software at 99% DRAM utilization.

SMART has shipped more than three hundred thousand of its DDR3 enterprise grade memory modules with a proven failure rate of less than two in ten thousand. This DPPM rate translates into proven value for OEMs by improving data integrity, enhancing reputation, and reducing costs associated with failing memory.

"Our focus has always been to provide our OEM customers with the highest quality, most reliable products, all while supporting the latest technologies available in the industry," stated Srida Joisa, Senior Director of the DRAM Product Line for SMART Modular Technologies. "The development of Enterprise Memory clearly addresses these objectives. Delivering a DDR4 Enterprise Memory solution is another step forward in providing the highest value to our customers."

SMART is currently supporting small volumes of 8GB and 16GB DDR4 enterprise grade RDIMMs with full production starting in January 2015.

Wow, only 2 in 10,000 defect rate seems pretty awesome. I'm curious as to what the failure rate of desktop RAM is from a company like Corsair or GSkill?

I've never seen any DIMMs that run at standard or low voltage fail. It's always the high voltage DIMMs that have the higher failure rates, but those aren't used in servers anyway.

I suspect that the natural failure rate of conventional RAM isn't much different than this "high reliability" RAM. What you're paying for is the testing of memory, but increased testing doesn't actually mean the product is any more reliable than the competition.
