Hello, I have an Athlon 64 3400+ s754 @ 2400 MHz which I tried to overclock and for some time now I've been hiting 2580 MHz. FSB is @ 215 MHz and RAM is set @ 2:1 400 MHz. I tried to increase bus speed by 1 MHz from 216 to 220 MHz and none of this worked. Actually @ 216 and 217 I could manage to log on to desktop but it would freeze after 3-4 minutes. As soon as I returned FSB to 215 MHz everything worked normal, Windows booted, etc. I would like to achieve at least 2.65 or even 2.7 because I've read that this CPU is capable achieving it. So, after some talks with my friends I came to a conclusion that maybe I've been limited by RAM.
My question is what would be the best RAM upgrade, Corsair, OCZ, or is it something else??

Specs:
CPU: AMD AThlon 64 3400+ (Venice) @ 2580
CPU cooler: Gigabyte G-Power II Pro
MBO: Asu K8V-X
Memory: Kingmax 1 GB DDR
Transcend 1BG DDR
GPU: Asus AH3650 Silent 512 MB DDR2
HDD: WD Caviar Blue 160 GB PATA
WD Caviar Blue 250 GB PATA
PSU: MSI 400W

Thanks

I've ran my OCZ platinums at 230Mhz without touching voltages.

Take into account that the maximum overclock not only depends on the CPU but on the board as well. I have a QX6800 that I can't get past 3.2Ghz on a 4 phase board but I tested it on a 6 phase board with modern VRMs and got to 4Ghz with ease.

Before plunging for some RAM try setting RAM at a lower ratio and find out just how far can the CPU go on your particular board.

Yesterday I was trying all day to get over 2580 MHz but with no luck, so I decided to leave as is until I get better rams (I'll buy those ocz platinums you mentioned) and I'll get back with more info

I have a Foxconn Winfast K8S760MG-6LRS here with a max fsb of 232 and i'm rollin it now at 230. My memory is cheap ass generic memory i got new from ebay and it rolls at 200mhz now. CPU is a 3200+ but with 1m cache which is rare for a 754. HIS IceQ 4670 1gig dd3. That rig is fast enoguh to roll win 7 pro 64bits aero. Nice rig you got there. HTPC and light gaming too I guess.

Go for Kingston value ram. I was able to overclock it on a socket 478 setup. The cpu was from 2.4 up to 3.0 so the ram was able to follow.
