Software Windows 11 Pro 64-bit
My Laptop is an Asus X541UV with an Nvidia 920MX with Core i7 6500U and Optimus and Windows 10 Home.

When I launch Wolfenstein the New Order using the Nvidia GPU, I get a black screen WITH audio, and the game responds to keystrokes. It, however works correctly when launched with the Intel GPU but obviously with crippled performance. GPUZ shows the Nvidia GPU is being used. Seems like the Nvidia GPU rendering is not going to the display
Tried Windowed mode. The window is completely black.

Any other game works correctly using the Nvidia GPU
I have all drivers updated, including Nvidia's. Searching all over Internet yields nothing, seems I am the only one with this issue.

Any help will be appreciated.

Pretty sure 920MX isn't suitable for any games outside of the most primitive in graphics.

If memory serves, Wolfenstein uses iD Tech engine which runs on OpenGL. Most games run on DirectX.

Fallout 4, Witcher 3 and more run like a charm on my 920MX.
On the other hand, I have played it on an HD5450 which is way weaker than the 920MX
The 920MX also supports OpenGL.

Try GEforce Experience auto-configuration?
It only changes quality settings, which don't make any difference.
I also tried setting it on Nvidia Control Panel, again, without any difference.
I just realized I am using an Windows 10 insider build. Could this cause this issue? I doubt it.
Maybe I will try to install Windows 10 stable on another HDD just to see if the stable build works or not. If yes, then reformat the laptop.

I found the issue to be fairly pervasive during my google search. Very little help to be had on the subject, but there are some things to consider trying.

I would disable GameDVR in the xbox windows app, I would also disable shadowplay and any and all overlay systems that may be running, this includes fraps and even the steam overlay and try again.

Second, the official word from bethesda appears to claim it is an issue with drivers, so in the event that all else fails, running DDU and reinstalling or even reverting to older drivers may be something to try

Thanks

I don't have GameDVR enabled nor Steam overlays or Fraps

I saw that page from Bethesda but I have the latest Nvidia driver so I can't update it
Yes, Google shows many black screen problems but they are followed by a crash or freeze. In my case the game is running "normally" (it has audio, it even responds to keystrokes (judging by sound changes) but black screen.
I have also reinstalled driver and tried the previous version. No difference!

Have you tried the basics.... a different driver?

Yes I tried the previous version. I will try more versions

After trying several drivers without avail I decided to reinstall Windows 10 using the stable build instead of the insider one.
Finally the issue was apparently in the Windows insider build or something wrong in my previous install. Now Wolfenstein works fine with the Nvidia Card using the latest driver (378.49), which is way smoother than the Intel IGP.
That explains why nobody else had this exact issue.

Many thanks to all :)

Check out the latest inside build thread, known issues include some games not working properly ;)
Gaming known issues
  • Popular games may experience crashes or black screens when trying to load due to a platform issue.
  • When clicking on certain elements in desktop (Win32) games, the game minimizes and cannot be restored.
  • Game Mode is enabled system wide by default, however, the ON/OFF toggle in Settings will incorrectly show it as being OFF until the user manually toggles the Setting to ON which will cause it to update and accurately display the status of Game Mode system wide.
  • Broadcasting to Beam via the Game bar currently requires a number of Privacy settings to be changed. Please visit this forum post.
  • Certain hardware configurations may cause the broadcast live review window in the Game bar to flash Green while you are Broadcasting. This does not affect the quality of your broadcast and is only visible to the Broadcaster.

*facepalm* I must have missed that list.

Many thanks :)

920MX is a even more crippled version of the desktop card which are low end igp replacements.

The problem has been solved and W:TNO as well as other recent titles run as smooth as ever on the 920MX.

Why in this forum, anything not high/entusiast grade is always maligned?
facepalm.gif

It's a completely lack of respect for anyone not able/willing to pay for high end stuff.

920MX is an adequate GPU for a laptop. I used to have ASUS R500V with dedicated GT630, and in native 1366x768 I beat Wolfenstein:TNO on above medium settings (just had to drop texture/shadow size and disable AA).
And that card only had 96CUs. His is a cut down 930MX (GM108) with a 265CU count, which is at least twice as fast as mine was.

920MX is slower than iris pro...it isn't even worth the cost of installing. Hell the regular intel IGP trades blows with it.

I can confirm that any (!) OpenGL app fails to render with current Windows insider builds on NVIDIA GPU while the same app works with iGPU on my Optimus rig.
Last working build was 14986.

And your point is...? Core i7 6500U doesn't have an Iris Pro and the 920MX crushes its IGP (HD 520) all way in terms of performance.
I don't understand why are there users coming here, derailing this thread to criticize/maligning the 920MX after my problem was SOLVED and was caused by a WINDOWS INSIDER BUILD

Many thanks :) That is the exact situation here!

Yes I see that now your BETA build of windows had issues. Man what a surprise that a BETA wasn't perfect

I also wouldn't use the term crushes to describe a pair of potatoes.

I pieced my rig together in 2014. Didn't buy everthing at once.

GTFO of my thread(s) and stop filling them with crap if you don't have anything useful to say.

Older != lower end,
And a higher end 2014 hardware is always more powerful than a current lower end.

If a moderator can close this thread and mark it solved in the title I would be grateful

:slap:Actually recheck my specs dude. The 290 gpu eats both the 920 which is a newer GPU than mine and 750Ti. CPU Performance is better than the 6100 you have there yet yours is newer. So who says older is lower end? Your arrogance blinds you. Time to wake up.

Good Luck with the 5308+Od

And time to stop calling potato to other peoples hardware when they didn't asked an opinion and derailing support threads like this.

Who is arrogant?

You and think that because you are veterans in this forum you have the right to lack respect to a HELP thread?
