so im a little confused as to the right settings and connections to use to get 5.1 sound. Right now im usind digital coax but I can go optical also. The sound card has options for dolby digital pro logic II and dts and then the z-5500's can be set to sterio, sterio II, dolby pro logic II music or movie. Im not sure if I should have the card set at dolby digital and the z-5500 pod or if the pod just decodes it on its own, also im not sure if you can get 5.1 from coax or if I need the optical. Here are some screen shots of the ht omega claro audio software.

here is what it is set to now, anything highlighted blue is active

this is what I think it should be set at

and here are the other options

The Z-5500 system has built in decoding. I think you just want to run a digital connection to the Z-5500. You should be able to get the 5.1 from the Digital Coax cable. Your selections above look correct for this scenario (Dolby Digital selected). You probably don't need to select a DSP mode in the control panel. I'm sure that since you spent about $400 on that system you can get some nice support from Logitech ;)

thats kinda what I was thinking(dolby digital selected) because heres the thing, on the z-5500 pod you can select sterio, sterio X 2, pro logic II music or movie only when im using the setting chosen in the first screen shot. now when I choose DD 5.1 from the software like in the second screen shot above it shows the dolby symbol and then digital on the pod and it cant be changed from the pod, same with dts.

mdashoot,

When "Dolby Digital" or "DTS" is selected in your sound card driver menu it encodes multi-channel sources into either Dolbly or DTS. To encode two channel sources such as .mp3's you have to combine DTS with Neo: PC or Dolby Digital with prologic IIx - either music or movie mode in the driver menu.

If your watching a DVD thats already encoded in either Dolby or DTS you have to enable the SPDIF option in your software player so that the sound card doesn't re-encode the existing encoded material. The options on your Logitech's pods such as pro logic and stereo X2 are just DSPs to upmix5.1 channels when using PCM stereo 44.1kHz, 48kHz, 96kHz. Leave the pod's settings to automatically detect signals when using the Dolby Digital or DTS features from the soundcard.

I think I have it set correct, on the back of the pod there is a switch to set it at 6 channel direct and thats what I have it at
