I took the plunge and migrated from XP x64 to Windows 7 x64 on my desktop, but I have one problem. For some reason, my sound (Creative Audigy II ZS) doesn't play through my back speakers with everything like it used to in XP. For example, I was skipping through Deathnote earlier and there was no sound coming from my back speakers, even though I do have everything configured properly in the drivers. However, I noticed that (as with Vista) in the Creative control panel, I can't select "Stereo Surround" anymore; the only options I get to choose from are Off and CMSS. I do have it set to 5.1 speaker configuration. If I go into the Windows Sound properties, I do hear the doorbell noise in speaker setup. What do?

But they all had surround sound in XP; thus it's an issue with the OS or the drivers written for the OS. I think it's the drivers because I don't get a "Stereo Surround" option like I had in XP.

its the drivers not the OS. if you heard all the speakers fire up during the 5.1 test then it has set 5.1 but your source is probably only 2 channel what XP was doing was forcing surround. youll need to see if their is a similar option in the current CP or in the application itself. and it probably wont have the same name it had in XP

I have this problem with my Creative SB Audigy 4 when I first installed the RC version. My 7.1 sound work fine with XP, when I went to win7 I am only able to use 7.1 on some games, 5.1 on other games, but only 2.1 on everything else.:( I can't even use any of the EAX software features anymore and I never resolved the issue because I got lazy...... I'm assuming I downloaded to wrong drivers?

I just tried daniel_k's drivers and even though I can select stereo surround in the creative control panel, I still don't get any sound from my rear speakers. wtf?

I still hear some sounds out of the rear speakers (like in the Windows Sound speaker setup test screen where it plays the doorbell noise) but I don't hear everything that I should hear, like music, even with Stereo Surround selected in the Creative Control Panel...

I hear it coming out of the rear with CMSS2 selected instead of Stereo Surround, but it sounds muffled... when I had Stereo Surround selected it sounded very clear unlike this crap.

I just pick up 5.1 speaker (christmas from the wife :) ) but anyway i tried them out before we wrap it. And I was having this same issue. Other then with games, like you the window bell and other sounds played fine. Realtek and windows sound settings where all set to 5.1. But! When watching a movie on Youtube I wouldn't get rear audio. Restarted computer, it work for a bit. Then just stop. Play WoW and CODMW2, they sound great sound from all speaker. Back to YouTube and it would sotta come and go. Not real sure...... Gotta wait till christmas grrrrr

CMSS is what enables stereo surround, idk what version of deathnote your watching but none ive seen are 5.1 unless u got the Ntsc dvd's :slap: + u need a digital connection if ur trying to play DD5.1
When you put it on stereo surround adjust the balance mine defaults to 100% front
idk if our consoles look the same but heirs mine i actually have 2
If you cant get it to work try creatives beta drivers

That shouldn't matter, I should still hear it in the back with Stereo Surround enabled.

Here's what I have on the CMSS 3D tab. It always worked when I had it set up like this before.

None of Creative's official drivers even have the Stereo Surround selection here in Vista (or 7). It worked fine in XP. This was thier way of getting people to upgrade from an Audigy series card to an X-Fi series card: by butchering the drivers so people would run out and buy new. I tried the PAX drivers and they didn't even install... they looked like they did until I rebooted and I still had a red X over the megaphone saying that I had no audio device installed. Daniel_K's drivers install but they don't work like they should...

I'm about to pack up my 5.1 speakers and use my 2.1 set with my onboard sound if I can't get this working. I do know one thing: Creative's not getting another penny from me thanks to this bullshit.

i couldn't agree more i think my next card will be on of those azuneteks iv had far to many problems with my xfi.
i bought it cause it was supposed to be awesome with bf2 now all it does is glitch the sound out to an indefinite loop when xfi is turned on in game.

Not to mention the xfi is jealous of all other pci cards ive had 3 different mobos with 3 different chip sets and any time i insert any pci card with the xfi in any arrangement it all go's to hell in a hand bag.

i might be wrong here but could a lot of these problems be down to microsoft removing directx sound? i notice my realtek sound messes up in vista and windows 7, the setero channels are reversed and i can't find anyway to swop them apart from changing over the left and right phono leads in me amp. half the fetures are missing.

yea its partially to blame but they also changed the video driver structure in vista and i bet if i plug in an old ati x300 it will work to its full capability's so theirs no excuses for creatives lack of support

True and as good as the creative cards are for sound, its the driver side of it that made me not buy a new one after my old audigy 2 broke.

My x-fi xtreme music does 5.1 very nicely in any supported app or game. You have to disable cmss if you want true 5.1 in games or movies, and enable for things like winamp. It does work slightly better in xp64 than win7 64, but, oh well. In thx settings, if you have 5.1, check enable bass redirection, that will send lows to subs whether using 5.1 or 2.1. Set crossover frequency to 80hz(thx). That should get you started....
