Speaker Interference?

I own a 5.1 array of Logitech X530 speakers.

To put it simply, they work perfectly. However, lately ive noticed that when I use power in other nearby places in the house that they crackle.

For example, when i turn on my bedside lamp they made a LOUD crackling noise, despite the fact that they were muted. And they make a similar sound just moments ago when my sister was using a power point in her room (next door to mine).

Im guessing this is some sort of electrical interferance?
But WHY?

Im relatively sure these speakers are totally shielded (theyr right next to my monitor and im experiencing no problems to that effect.)

you´re right, your speakers are magnetically shielded... but you still had them powered on. What i mean is that switching devices on/off (especially those with a high power consumption) can cause small bursts/surges/interferences in the grid of your house, and that´s the crackling sounds you hear....

i.e. when i have my comp running and then switch the lights in my room on/off (~200W), the sound mutes for ~1,5s....

yeah, but it didnt happen before :p! lol

thats why im concerned

It probably did and you just didn't know it. I have the same problem and it freaked me out, but my dad assured me that it is fine. My dad is a 25 year master electrician, so I believe him ;).

my desktop pc speakers, pick up radio somehow? even if my comp is off if i touch a bit of metal with the jack you can clearly hear a radio station and i have no tv tuner or otherwise in my pc :twitch:

Those logitech speakers are kind of like an old TV. They never really go fully off. You can turn off the computer and kill the input to them. You can turn off the R-Front speaker pwr button, but even then the amp in the woofer is still plugged in and charged. Charged systems will pick up static and other interfearence from the area. I plug things like my logitech speakers to a seperate surge protector and kill the switch to it when the computer is not i use. That also saves electricity.

i'll agree with all the above ....my logitech %>! does the exact same thing and i also get an accational crackle durring gameplay....over a year and still sounds good (no issues)

same with my logitech surround system. i noticed it happens mostly when I turn lamps on and off. maybe a surge in the circuit or something, or electromagnetic interference. idk.

If I turn my ceiling fan on, my speakers POP. It's just a power bubble, nothing damaging at all.

It happens alot when wireless devices (cell phones, cordless phones, etc) are also in the radio spectrum. We all know that these devices operate in a frequency of the radio spectrum (the 2.4Ghz govt mandated freebie). Its not uncommon to hear them and not hear them, etc.

thats so true i can hear when my cell is about to ring before it does on my speakers i freak ppl out with that i tell em im psychic

nice find....but i think i'd take the popping vs. the $200 sticker......good investment if you have more serious issues tho!!!

yea well when you turn a 500w system up to halfway and it pops bearing in mind that that pop noise is 10x louder than any sound coming through the inputs i sounds like the damn screw press at my work forging aluminum and hurts my damn ears and im sure it cant be good for the speakers

funny thing is my friend that lives in my basement has a pair of the z-680's basically the same speakers only older same wattage and speaker design they don't pop at all looks like logitech has been cutting corners to save money on there new stuff

hehe seems like lots of people here have the x-5500. aside from the occasional pop, i love them.

idk, but sometimes they pop sorta randomly. could be my crap-tastic integrated audio... idk.

Sounds like you may have a bad ground on that amp or the outlet it's plugged into may have a bad ground. Either way that doesn't sound good and cant be good for the speakers!(or your ears)

I have kind of the same issue as you ex-raven, but it is with my tv and my computer. See i have a TV right next to my computer, and i like to sit in my computer chair and watch tv and eat sometime. Though when i turn my TV on, while my PC is running it will make a little flash on the screen when i turn it on. I have been doing this for over 2 years, and it hasn't made a difference in my monitor or anything. I know my speakers crackly when i first turn them on while my TV is on to. But they stop crackling after like 2 seconds..not a big deal ya know?

But yea, just lettin you know ur not the only one.. my stuff still runs fine though.. I love it!

Yeah most people get that, but i didnt think that cell phones used the same frequency as wireless devices (2.4 ghz)

I just put that down to electrical interference....the phone is basically a microwave lol
