People still use Spybot?!

Who wouldn't? The host blocking is a necessity.

No it isn't, the host blocking is just unneeded hassle. OpenDNS installed on the router is a necessity if you have people that are too stupid to avoid sites they shouldn't be on. Installed once, and it covers the entire network. Or failing that, just keep a custom hosts file with everything you want blocked on a flash drive and install it on every new computer. Don't waste time and resources installing spybot for the same thing.

Calling clicking "immunize" a hassle is a bit of a stretch. I'd just carry a host file over on new installs but I have a pet peeve about unnecessary entries, so I always start over each time.

I call Installing the program, updating it, clicking immunize, then uninstalling it a hassle, yes. If it was as easy as clicking immunize, I wouldn't call it a hassle.:toast:

Double clicking a batch file that does the same thing is far less hassle.

Wow, I did not think I was going cause controversy, or I would not have posted.

Anyway, I would use SB as a 'second opinion', much as I use MalwareBytes.

However, no-one is compelled to use it, after all.

I used to use it, but, IMO, it seemed to miss a lot of buggers and eat more resources than other more thorough options, that were a little quicker at their job.

As far as, blocking using the host file.
Some good info for those who want it and it stays updated(usually weekly):
Blocking Unwanted Parasites with a Hosts File
:)

Hi
I just tested it on my vm and I like the new interface. It looks modern and is easy to use. The suite contains lot of tools e.g. to manage autoruns, scan for rootkits or to create a bootbable cd. That feature is really a nice gimmick!

Maybe good old Spybot has its come back :respect:
