I didn't have time lately to play this game, to play in general. Any update worth mentioning, like those awful load times?

The latest update has only made it crash even worse for me.

The load times are very fine IMO, but I have it on a NVME SSD.

Same, but still too many of them, you enter a door load, landing load, entering ship load, exiting load. I would prefer if they use more ram to put everything inside.

That is my biggest gripe as well. So much loading.

That will never ever be fixed. It's a Bethesda game.

Only posers care for looks.

Anyway it's time to do the main questline. I have 85 hours in the game, and I'm out of stuff to do.

So time to gain some powers, although I really don't want to.

It IS kind of ironic though that you chose boxy shapes for the body of the ship, but round engines. :p

I'm well into my 2nd NG+, and this time I only did a moderate upgrade on the Razorleaf. I basically replaced the weak two lasers with 5 Vanguard Obliterator Autoprjectors, and kept the rear two Particle guns and front Missile launcher. Reactor wise I chose the best class A one the New Atlantis technician had, rated at 29 power, and upgraded the shield with the 2nd best class A one he had, rates at 760. I as well swapped out the Stroud cowling for a Nova that had 3 weapon mounts. It was about 82,000 for the entire upgrade.

I'm finding with my Engine, Shield and Particle Weapons skills maxed, and Andreja and Barrett onboard with their level 3 Particle Weap skills, it's ample for everything I've faced so far, including the dog fight with The First at Arcturus II. That said, OF COURSE I'm still going to upgrade the Star Eagle for the fight with both Starborn, but I'm kind of tempted to try doing the Crimson Fleet quest with this one after upgrading to the hefty version of the same rear Particle guns, and putting on a better missile launcher.

Razorleaf NG+ 2.jpg

Skip to the 5:13 mark if you want to go straight to the dog fight.

They are the most powerful ones I can buy, and I wasn't even aware there were any other shapes for habs than boxes. The mind boggles!

I was talking more in terms of structural pieces than habs regarding the look of the body. They tend to give a more stylish look. The irony though is they add mass, so beauty isn't always svelte.

I think this game has mostly run its course for me. I am grinding now trying to get enough points so that i can build cool ships. I spent all of my points on combat and stealth the first go round so now it is basically a grind going through the missions to get enough experience. I blast through all of the dialog. They need to create a "skip" dialog option and just auto-warp you to the location. Maybe it could be a starborn power...

I read an article yesterday that was talking about how you obtain Starborn powers, the flying through loops thing, and you just do that on repeat for all of them. It was comparing it to Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom how you get powers and some other games, even Skyrim, and explaining how many missed opportunities Starfield has in it. Just seems really lackluster... I don't plan to install Starfield again until the expansion is out (since the expansion is free for me anyway) and possibly even waiting for a couple updates or unofficial patch update after the expansion is out before I do my full playthrough. I did have fun dabbling in it for the 20-30 hours I played, but yeah hopefully it will blossom as a game in time, I'm in no rush.

I would really give anything for a mod that does space combat like a pause system combat like Dragon Age Origins, where I can zoom out, pause combat, giver orders to several ships in my fleet, then AI takes over, and I can zoom in on any ship I want for more direct combat. I love games that combine this hybrid down top view with being able to go down in FPS, mixing genres is great.

considering Starfield was free for me though, I can't complain, and I do think I will get a lot of fun out of it in the future once it gets more quality life updates, mods, and expansions

Yeah, it DOES suck that they use the same zero G positioning mini game that looks identical every time. About the only slight variation in it is what happens right after, or whether what happens after does, or doesn't happen. There is only ONE exception I know of, and that's the one where you have to go on a side quest with Barrett to get, and he gets that same power himself.

The type of space battle feature you're referring to would be more akin to Strategy type games than the type Bethesda makes though.

I stopped playing at 120.4hrs. The game got boring really fast, to me it doesn't really have much replay value atm.
I wanted to become a space pirate but starfield couldn't provide that. I guess I'll wait for star citizen to come out when ever it does.

Yeah the game gets really boring and they changed so much from the open world survival. There is no reason to build outposts or custom ships other than to say you did it. I didn't build a single outpost or custom ship in any of my play throughs. Exploration is absolutely boring. If you've seen 2-3 caves, you have seen every cave on every planet. If you have seen a research out post, you have seen every research outpost. The game was a lot of fun the first play through, but I am not running it 10 more times... Thanks Nexus mods for that one. Even with mods and starting on the 10th run I just have no desire to play. Oh I forgot the most important. Enemies scale with you so you will never feel powerful like you should.

Bethesda didn’t make cyberpunk and has a poor history with expansion packs

I mean in general -- seems like some of the games that released with a gigantic scope and in a rough state (Cyberpunk, No man's Sky) seemed to have redeemed themselves. Hoping they can do the same with cyberpunk -- but you're right.

You say you've played it a lot, but when you say things like this I have to wonder what you've been doing. Just halfway through my 3rd playthrough on NG+ level 2, I've been cutting through enemies pretty easily even on Very Hard with just a bit of work on researching weapon parts and upgrading my weapon design skill. With only a bit over 80,000 credits I've also upgraded the Razorleaf to handle space fights very well, and I can easily make it even better, as I only upgraded one weapon slot.

If you're just stealing or buying ships and not upgrading them, that's the problem. Same on hand carry weapons. I'm currently at player level 67, but I've yet to even use Phased Time, let alone spam it like many talk about doing once it's maxed at level 10, which pretty much makes every fight like child's play. It's all in the skills , powers, and researching and upgrading you do if you want to stay ahead of the enemy. No pun intended, but it's not rocket science.

As for feeling powerful, I don't mind that, but I'd still rather be facing powerful enemies when I am. Being overpowered just makes things boring.

safe to say bethesda stopped caring with this game. I can't believe how dull it is. They went from the innovative and mysterious morrowind to ....this. The most bland and drab RPG ive ever played.

Honestly, if you aren't interested in dialog, then an RPG like starfield probably just aint for you.

And missions is a slow way to get xp - take a hard target with a silencer on, fly to a high level planet (preferably a savannah), jump up on top of your ship, kill all the animals in the vicinity of your ship - then jump to next area. You can get like 5 levels in an hour doing that.

It isn't that I am not interested in the dialog. This is my third time through with the same dialog...

It's not always going to be the same each playthrough regarding dialog, or even how the interactions happen. There are a possible 10 different scenarios with main characters in NG+, different universes you can be reborn into. One example I can give you is my first playthrough, Hunter showed up in the Lodge, then attacked at Spaceport with Guardians in tow. This time he just appeared in the tiny cockpit of my Razorleaf as I was about to take off, and there was different dialog, and no physical attack.

The game is what the player makes of it, if you choose the exact same response at the Lodge each NG+, and do the exact same quests in the exact same order, you're probably going to somewhat limit how diverse each playthrough is.

Updated my ship a bit - lowered the cargo, so my ship now has 99 mobility - will make one dedicated entirely for cargo later.

I only ever do 1 playthrough for the very same reason - but i do 100% completion playthroughs :)

How many hours have you played? I'd say anything over 50 is pretty good value for money.

Also I'm only a lowly level 37 scoundrel, and enemies do not scale. I'm doing the main questline only now and even the terrormorph was really easy to kill.
