Starfield discussion thread

On your crash issue is it just to desktop? I finally had a couple on my main rig and they all ended up being gpu memory clock based

I have had about 10 crashes. 9 of them are straight hard PC shutoffs. It is like someone secretly hit the power button... The AMD overlay shows nothing unusual. Temps at 73 degrees, CPU barely used, and only 8 gigs of the 12 being uses for memory.

damn sorry man, I haven't had any issues. im about 10 hours in, really loved about 80% of it so far, menus are a bit convoluted is my main gripe, nothing a good mod won't fix though.

@cdawall i got my vram overclocked to 2770, its fully stable. that is a heavy oc I have on vram too. no issues here.

edit: i just took the high ground on a mission, damn that was fun, deus ex level of fun. you can really make of this game what you want, the AI is surprisingly really good, this one dude ran away from me, ran behind a door corner, then surprised melee me even though he was ranged at first, he knew I would chase him. fucking sick, lmao

PSU is probably taking a dump. This game seems to use ALL of my system power.

Is there a way I can tell if that is happening. My PSU has plenty of power to handle my rig.

edit: oh heck it looks like EVGA makes software for PSU for testing, tuning, etc...

edit 2: nevermind that is for a specific PSU. EVGA website is poop.

yep same, its the only game that has pushed my rig to its limits. that being said I am hooked. already a 9/10 for me, few annoyances that will hopefully be fixed later on, but I am getting 140-160 fps 1440p 90% render almost every mission i go on, just the cities that bring my rig to its knees, but i dont spend much time in the cities anyway so meh.

in the first 10 hours i have experienced so many surprises i am genuinely shocked. if this is only the tip of the iceberg, prob going to be a 10/10 for me.

also this game is gorgeous once you get in certain areas. these are normal pictures, i didn't change settings any just to make them look nicer. some of you might not be impressed, but I am loving this game now that I am getting more time with it. hope it gets fsr3 frame generation support someday, cause I'd like to be able to enjoy the cities more, but meh

I'd check Windows error logs to see if it was Windows shutting things down. If not, and with the shutdowns seemingly being common on your rig I'd just assume the PSU isn't doing great.

Transients on a 6750XT are over 400w from what I remember might be tripping OCP or UCP and while your power supply is of good quality it is an 8+ year old platform. Like I mentioned earlier had the same issues with a 3080ti on multiple 750w/850w psu Jumping to 1000w fixed the issue it was also just one game.

Transients on a my 3080ti FTW3 were in the low 500s so it would be somewhat fitting if it is the same issue. Either way it wouldn't hurt to try a 750w or 850w psu to see if the issues goes away, amazon has a good return policy to at least rule it out.

hard shutoffs are GPU tripping the PSU most likely - built a 6900xt 12900k alder lake rig that did that - used an 850W PSU and had that issue - went with a corsair 1KW and it was solved.

I legit can't stop playing. I am having so much fun... wow, honestly almost quit the game after my first thirty minutes or so, just felt really slow and boring to me, oh look at the laser cut the rock... yawn... so so so so glad I stuck with it.

Today is my day off and literally ended up playing about 8 hours or so, lmao

don't mind me, just hopping around

Sounds like power issues! Seen that before. Btw my rig is topping ~650w continuous during Starfield; ~400w gpu + ~250w cpu/other, sometimes a little lower

This game is fun and the graphics are sick. It's the Crysis of 2023! I'm getting 75-140fps on ultra 1440uw. I can't believe the recommended render resolution is only 75%

I've had a few Radeon Adrenaline crashes, and low and behold 23.8.2 just came out the other day and mine didn't auto update...

I'm actually impressed with the FSR 2 implementation here (so far) - it's usable and my eyeballs aren't begging for mercy. Nice.

OCCT has a power supply test. It just loads the CPU/GPU at once to 100% I am with the others though it sounds like a PSU.

found my first bug, took about 11 hours of gameplay, not bad Bethesda not bad. Neo and Trinity just hanging out

Yeah, it's the best implementation I've seen.

Dunno if it's been said yet but: be very careful when dealing with ships and your items inside.

Of you sell your ship, anything in it is gone forever. What I experienced on one ship I got, weapons on weapon rack just vanished entirely. Had some legendaries on there. Oh well.

yeah same goes for houses. i regret getting the dream house trait. i never even visit my house lol

i just unlocked the combat slide. so now i am flying rank 4 with jet pack and combat sliding, doesn't really matter in this kind of game, but eh its still fun to me to be zipping around everywhere

Will it fix the root of the problem though? Mods made Skyrim something numerous times better, but they all are an improvement of a solid base. Judging from the comments and some streams, Starfield comes short in the very foundation of it. Also ridiculous how they can mess even a completely new franchise up.

I guess I was naive to expect Skyrim in space.
This isn't a new franchise honestly, Bethesda has one franchise and that's an open world Creation Engine game. That's a whole market of its own. The universe it plays in doesn't matter, the story is forgettable anyway or you've already seen it. These games all attract the same gamers.

Bethesda/Todd knows: if he can deliver a shiny new sandbox, he's done.

@Easy Rhino I just figured out how to do multiple characters safely. when you click Load on the main menu, you just click B select character, the saves are kept separate, just don't name your characters the same name and nothing bad should happen. I am going to give it a whirl now and use cheat codes with my second character, just to play around some. so when you go to click load, this will be at the bottom of the screen, it only shows you your saves from this one character. neat. not sure why it took me forever to figure this out. lol

With the beta intel driver it is playable but not very good. FPS fluctuates from 20-60 even when i stay in one place. CPU 6-7 cores used, vram 9-10gb used, ram 9gb used. GPU usage randomly goes up and down.

All high but xess is not enabled (mod)
Waiting for the optimized driver.
I'm also playing on an old rog notebook (i7 4820qm, 16gb, gtx960m,) bad in cities but playable at closed places and planets. (720p everything is low, ini and dx12dll is hacked because it is a dx11 card 750ti with 4gb)

I finished the Rangers main campaign and the ship they gave me is awesome. Many pew pews will be had with this bad boy. Going to attempt to build an outpost next due to what is going on in the main story line...

I've been playing (and doing some tweaking) for the last 8 hours or so and I absolutely love the game. With DLSS I get 120-130fps @ 1440UW with everything on Ultra. Some stutters now and then, but nothing I'm bothered about in the least and no crashes.

Figured I'd give the game a try - completely forgot I pay for the kids to have game pass on the Xbox - so I went to download the game on PC. Requires 149GB.

Got to about 101GB and there was some kind of "error" and it had been sitting at that error for the past handful of hours. Suggestions to try was restarting your system and app and so on. They didn't work. I came back a few times over the next few hours and tried to restart the download only to be meet with the same error. Screw it - I canceled the download thinking I just have to restart it since it's stuck for some reason. I went back to restart the download - nope, you can't do it if you cancel it. You have to try and redownload the entire 149GB. Fuck that. This is one of the reasons I fucking hate digital downloads (and shitty data caps). Give me back physical copies.

I'm not sure if this is a shot at the game itself or if it's just a crappy experience with Microsoft Gamepass servers, either way, it'll be a game I won't be playing. Waste of nearly 1/10th of my monthly data cap. Oh, and screw you too, Comcast, with your stupid data caps.

Are these events being generated randomly ? can you find the ships if you go to the same locations ? and wait there for some time cause those ships actually arrived when I was playing not just sit there ..

Finally got to play the game, looks good on the Xbox (haven't tried it on PC yet) especially from far. Seems very intuitive and guides you towards your objectives, fast travel is good, surprisingly loadings aren't so bothersome.

Feel sorry for you, Microsoft store is a mess, sometimes for no particular reason language changes to Chinese, downloads just break, account somehow isn't pass anymore...

Yeah data cap are stupid, even in third world countries they don't exist.
