Steam Deck 2 and all future handhelds will never get it right.

another thing that future steam decks can do is .....
if it has 8 cores or more, should have the option to use 2, 4, 6, or 8 cores depending on how old the title... in order to save more power... not just limit the tdp on the gpu
for example snes final fantasy dont require more than 2 cores... one for the game and one for the os...

That's a good idea. Should be easy to implement in the BIOS of each device.

Edited title - overly complex.

Funny joke of the day:

Lenovo downgraded their screen resolution, their first handheld had a 1600p paired with an APU... now their Z2 Extreme APU handheld will have a 1200p screen... guess there is more to my thread here than meets the eye...:nutkick:

I'm ok with that. It's a sub-10" screen, the differences between 1200p and 1440p in observable detail will be minimal. Performance will increase. So yeah, this is a cool change.

it was a 1600p screen they had in their original handheld, I had it wrong. and yes, 1200p is much better. kind of proves my point regarding this thread though... they backtracked because shockpikachu face, APU's really really struggle at higher rez's, and customers want 60 fps minimum, and nothing looks as good as native, if it did, companies wouldn't be adding physical buttons to change between two native resolutions on high end monitors

Honestly, for that size of screen I would be perfectly happy with 1600x900 or even 1366x768 and the performance would great! For example, my GPD Q9+ is 7" 1024x600 IPS and it works just fine and looks great. For portables, I'm not a resolution snob. A well planned balance is more my jam.

I think steam deck OLED got everything right, it feels light in hands, the 800p OLED is perfect, placement of all buttons suits me perfect too. i just wish they would be like, we are leaving the Deck OLED the same, just with a SoC upgrade and some more ram... man I would be one happy camper and pre-ordering fast

the sd oled was perfect when it was released... only thing was as time moved on games require more powerful hardware... which is inevitable... also if they can squeeze a slightly bigger battery be a bonus

I'm ok with battery staying the same, indie games and older games and 10 seconds change in the quick menu power settings and fps caps I am getting 10+ hours battery life, AAA games I will not play on the go and play plugged in while chilling in a hammock or in the bed. I understand my use case isn't everyone though, just sharing my opinion. I don't want it heavier. It's perfect the way it is

Oh, I just thought of this, I mean technically anker makes such slim 10,000mah battery power banks now, you could just strap that on the back and still not cover the vents if you really want more battery, they make them in tiny square sizes now

I prefer higher res + upscaling, looks way better than just running natively on lower res. But i dont like 1600 / 1200p, 16 by 10 is not my jam. Especially for emulators where you get black bars.

The physical buttons on screens arent there to change your resolution but to change the refresh rate - obviously
