my system should be destroying steam games. but when i'm playing zombie panic and pirates viking and knights I only get like 120-12fps :banghead: i have set my core to the 2 3 and 4 and its not maxing any of my cores. when i get 12fps i was like OMG !!!!!!!!!!!!. so i ran gpuz and i saw that my gpu usage was going down when i was laggy? like it plays around 40-50% and when lag it looks like 20-5% anyone know any quick fix?

happens to me when i have programs running in the background, make sure you have stopped folding/shut down boinc, if your not doing either of those try disabling anti virus

if that fails try a program called amd fusion, it should work on your board and it will shut down most background processes in the max performance profiles and will also let you overclock

edit: its normalaly hard drive use that causes slow downs like that, if your sure its not any of those you might want to back down on your overclocks as it might be thermal throttling, psu overload etc

K I will try that. I just dont get why my gpu usage goes down when it lags. btw my gtx260 is oc.

some of those mod games are really buggy so you won't get anywhere near as much fps as you would in half life 2 ep 2 or whatnot,

You should be getting a lot of FPS in both games. It's either system instability or some other problem. What do you mean you have "set your core"?

hes probably talking about the set affinity option on task manager

source is comically cpu limited, some mods may not enable multithreading by default. the performance gain is generally pretty massive.

mat_queue_mode 2
host_thread_mode 2

it will take place immediately and if you crash or run into strange problems the mod is probably on an old engine version where support was buggy as fuck.

Then that's his problem. Let Windows take care of what processes what.

when i do this my core1 sits at 100% used and the fps wont go past 50 but when i take it off core1 i.e. core 2,3,4 only it seems to boost the fps but i still get silly low fps. like my 2xcore pc with slower ram and a gts250 plays it better. i have no idea what my systems problem is when i can play bc2 maxed on a 50 inch tv.

Take a screenshot of the processes tab in the task manager. You have changed something or are running something that is interfering with your games.

First of all...put down the catnip. Secondly, yes, you need to monitor your system during use because it sounds as though something is using a lot of resources (memory and cpu cycles) that you aren't aware of. Like erocker said, check out Task Manager (Performance tab shows you load and usage) as well as others such as GPU-Z on the sensors tab and see what's up.

That isn't the processes tab. :ohwell:

*It does say you have 59 processes running, which can be quite a lot.

my guess is that his video card OC is unstable, and the cards lowering to 2D clocks as an error protection method. i run 75-90 processes lag free here, although my system is more powerful.
