Stock HS & fan + thermal paste??

I need to remove the old thermal paste from under my stock HS/fan (btw, it's an AMD athlon 64) it's the stock HS/fan that came with the cpu.

Now, the place where I always buy my computer related stuff from had theese two things to offer:

1.Coollaboratory Liquid MetalPad 3xCPU, 3xGPU + Cleaning set ( I really need to change the thermal paste for the Arctic Cooler on my Radeon aswell.)

2.TherMaxTech XtFlux-GA High Performance Nanotechnology cooling paste (long name, huh?)

The last mentioned (2) is new on the market he said. Also, they import it themselfs so it's cheap. It contains a combination of high-purity particles and silicone oil , it's thermal resistance is : 0.067 °C cm²/W. Also it can stand temps up to 200°C (or 392°Fahrenheit).

Both are the same price : 22€uro (32US$ / 16£). What to choose??

Also, how do I remove this "thermal paste" from under the HS? It's almost like chewing gum...

Thankful for any replies.

To remove the "bubble Gum" type paste you need something stronger than alcohol. I use Electric switch and Contack cleaner,(just spray it into the cap and use Q-tip or like swab). The store should have some sort of TIM remover, just ask.

I would go for the paste not the pad. :toast:

i would sugest as5, only because ive never heard of the other stuff you mentioned above, i can tell you that #1 sounds like a metallic TIM, while #2 is a sillicone based TIM

Coollaboratory Liquid MetalPad WILL EAT YOUR ALUMINUM HEATSINK !!!
