Sounds like you got a dud. I would try the MSI X670E Carbon next.

Replace the board? It's not the design but QC issue.

MSI X670E Carbon

Do I even need X670E? I can just use a lesser board with my 2 drives and 1 gpu, right? Does 2x32 6000C30 ram require X670E?

It's just that when I search, it seems that people get multiple Asus squealers in a row. And that even the $$$ Asus Hero also squeals, so it seems like an Asus thing. I have pretty much only bought Asus boards for a long time. But I am now ready to try something else.

MBs rarely squeal, it's usually gpus and power supplies. I've just installed a x670E Prime Pro no squeal.

Which is why I swapped PSUs and tried without GPU. Let me introduce you to the world's loudest 10500Hz motherboard. (My Asus Hero X570 board w/5800X3D is dead silent.)

How are NewEgg's motherboard return policies these days? I could return to Amazon and try from NewEgg (perhaps a different batch of boards)

I am suggesting X670E for longevity. The Memory controller is in the CPU so getting a top end board now makes sense. We will probably be getting 5.0 drives in the 15-20 Gb/S sequential in the next year. With X670E you have the most flexibility available on AM5. The Carbon is the cheapest board you can buy that has lane splitting at 8x8 and with 5.0 that is the bandwidth of a full 4.0 x16 slot. That means that when the bug hits you, you can get whatever you want for storage purposes. These boards also come with 3 PCIE slots and the 3rd slot is perfect for a card like the WD AN1500.

There is also the fact that Black Friday comes every year with compelling choices for storage. If you are a Gamer this board will satisfy you but if you are into content creation I think it even comes with an expansion card to run 2 5.0 M2 in RAID 0. Of course you could also jump right down the well and run 4 or 5 5.0 M2s in RAID 0. The thing is you are free to do more with X670E. AMD is also great at giving you compelling CPU choices as time goes on.

lol I don't touch newegg unless I absolutely have to. If you got it from Amazon just do a replacement thru them, easy as 123. Also you don't need a ROG board though I do love ROG bios. The only reason I went with a 670E is for the water temp sensor.

I was stuck between the MSI Carbon and the X670E E Strix. I ended up with the Strix. Asus pulled a fast one with connecting the 2nd PCIe slot to a M2 slot. That makes expansion cards not possible for RAID 0. It is not all bad though I have 2 but I can actually put 5 5.0 drives in my board. Computing today is insane when you sit back and take it in.

There are only returned (used/refurb) Carbon X670E boards available on Amazon though.

I had a x570 Carbon, would not buy again.

How is it a fast one? Are the dependencies not spelled out in the manual?

You are talking about what SATA/M2 support? On X670E that is why you get another chipset. That provides more I/O. Fast is any AM5 chip. CPU speed and transistor density are the same thing.

Luckily bought with with Amazon Prime, so I assume I can get a full refund no problem. Manuf date is listed as 4/2023.

It's so loud, can hear it 20' feet away no problem, constant whine as long as the board is powered on. I tried many things, latest bios, vrm freqs, swap psu models, remove all components from board (except cpu of course). CPU load, GPU load, neither make much difference. Board is just a screamer.

My components: 7800X3D, 2x32 6000 ram, 1 m.2 nvme, 1 sata ssd, 1 gpu.

I highly recommend the motherboard I got recently. This motherboard just came out March of this year, its a refresh cheaper version of the B650e version, B650 Steel legend, has gen5 gpu and nvme slot, optical, 8 layer pcb, bios on it is awesome, lot of submenus but its overall very user friendly. $179

expo is buried under dram configuration section, took me a bit to figure that one out, boot times are fast, its silent, runs everything cold and stable. the auto OC feature on it also works surprisingly well. it lets you choose from a list of options. I recommend the trio one that also has -20, unless you already know yours is fully stable with -30

I love mine and have no regrets. I expect I will be selling my 7800x3d when 11800x3d comes out, and selling my 7900 xt when rtx 6090 comes out. but keeping same mobo, ram, etc. I like it that much :D

B650 Steel legend

This is what I ordered before I saw your post, arrives in a couple days.

The whine on the Asus Strix X670E-F board has reduced somewhat, I've just let it sit there powered on, to see if it might go away (not really expecting that though).

Dude, I love this motherboard.

In BIOS there is an rgb lighting section, you don't need software at all to sync your RGB stuff, just go into the BIOS section and input values from 0-255 to get the colors you want, you can also select from your standard 10 or so preset patterns, I prefer mine static and a teal color though, and I lowered my brightness which you can also do in BIOS, 255 being the brightest, I set mine to about 40 for a nice dim lighting, it looks slick as heck irl.

Nothing but rock solid for me, I updated bIOS following the manual instructions on a fat32 usb stick with the entire PC powered down, just follow the instructions in the manual, wait 10 minutes, and boom rock on

Another recommendation is change your fans to "performance" settings, it takes two clicks and its a perfect fan curve, you don't need to do any tinkering this way.

set expo on, reboot

then go back into bios, the very first top option on the oc page, says performance presets, it will give you a bunch of options to pick through, just pick a normal one or middle of the road one, reboot, boom done

only other recommendation I'd make is your preference, so turn off igpu, it can take awhile to fine this, I think it was under AMD CMB or something like that I can't remember.

AsRock has an install auto feature too, you can turn that off in BIOS if you want.

honestly best motherboard I have ever owned. I plan to keep this through multiple gpu/cpu upgrades, or at least one major upgrade for each. but ram and mobo will stay same for a very long time :)

Yeah getting the Asrock Steel Legend EXPO settings enabled wasn't as straight forward as an Asus bios, but I got it going. Board seems to be working fine, and no 10.5kHz whine.

I'll look for the fan setting, I did notice it seems quite gentle with the fan speed out of the box.
