Wewll this might sound crazy but I was wondering if its theoretically possible to taake the backlight ( the lcd display itself ) and use it in a 30" dell 3007wfp-t unit??

Reason why is my gateway xhd3000 started to do the flicker dance right after comming off warrenty.. Gateway says pay me and Ill tell you screw off (they actually did that)
Now I was stuck w/ a $1800 flicker box that works perfectly occassionally...
Thye screen however is mint blemmish free..

So once ya have a 30" monitor its difficult going back to 24" (as I tried with an old dell)
So I found a steal on a 30" dell (the 3007 wfp-t) under $500 but at a cost the screen has a light scratch in the upper right corner... Now its barely noticable when in use especcially gaming... but i KNOW ITS THERE!!

So before I sell this gateway for peanuts on ebay I was hoping I could make use outta the screen.... I meaqsured from the exterior and its exact 16 7/8" x 25 3/8" so it technically could fit (might need some slight modding) this 30" screen I bet is only manufactured by what maybe 2 or 3 companies and I knowe Gateway did not actually make this maybe the case and psu but the LCD itself I bet is a samsung or a lg or whetever .. wouldnt it be great if I could swap em.... Just wanted to get some opinions before ZI start tearing things apart :rockout:

Well maybe???:wtf:

have to be brave ;-) i would have thought u would really struggle to get the screen in and out without damaging it but im no expert - are the scratches a real pain? I was considering a 30 inch with some scratches (dirt cheap) but dont know if i could live with it :-S

try buffing the scratch out.

if that doesnt work then yes it is possible, changing the actuall tube is you best bet, they are almost totally universal, BUT if it is your first screen (as in the panel itself) disasembly you will (garunteed) break something. so find a crappy 15" to practice on. also dont mix up the filter sheets.

also and maybe more what you are wanting to do, yes odds are good that you can swap the complete screen assembly between 2 different brand monitors. if the plug wont phisically fit, count pins in the plug, if the pins are the same number then look for what it will take to modify the plug to physically fit. (you will see what i mean when you are looking at it)

you could check if there the same i guess it's possible. Maybe check on ebay for spare parts or maybe this site could help ?

you sure it's the backlight that's actually faulty ?.

Just some thoughts . . .

regarding the actual panels themselves, there's only a handful of manufacturers that make the actual panel and it's components . . . they sell the panels and such to the branded manufacturers, who usually design the surround, base, and the other cosmetic stuff - big reason why you can sometimes see two different monitors side-by-side with the same display quality, near identicle features, and (sometimes) similar prices.

You might find that the backlighting between the two monitors are exactly the same, or very similar to each other. If it's out of warranty, then I guess it wouldn't hurt too much to find out, eh?

I feel like Arnold! move, move, move........ I can only hope this works.... Ive got a friend who owns a tv repair shop Im gonna have assist me on this I think... Too much risk for my thumbs alone.. But I will keep yas posted on the results,, blue is green or blue is blue :(... lets hope for the latter....

thous screen buff kits are a joke.
go to a body shop with 2 Dixie cups and ask them for a squirt of rubbing compound and a squirt of hand glaze.
use a red shop rag for the compound, and the softest cotton wash cloth you can find laying around your house for the hand glaze.

HOLY 5h1t!!!! I tried the eraser trick and its gone like never knew it was there gone..... This was a deep scratch too. I would have never thought it would work but man , I figured Id try it before dismantling the unit just for kicks and Im just amazed...
