So Synology finally arrives at the 2.5GbE era...

Season 3 Netflix GIF by Stranger Things

I did not read it thoroughly yet, nor did I watch the summary Vid completely (just hopped through). But my first takedown:

Good:
- 2.5GbE

Bad:
- dated CPU "choices"
- apparently some expansion capabilities (eg. for 10GbE expansion) are missing

Personally I'm not sure. On the one hand I was waiting for Synology to finally move to 2.5GbE, but the remainder seems lackluster for 2-bay options (either limited (225+, no NVME) or expensive af (725+))...

Nice finally faster NIC.

4 USB ports would be nice, only 2 really sucks. (Do they finally support USB hubs?)

I like they had started using AMD Embedded Ryzen's that support ECC.

USBC to the expansion unit sounds awesome. I dislike eSata cables.

Finally!
The 2.5GBit part I mean.

Holy shit, Synology is doing 2.5GbE?!

Is this real life?!

I'm okay with 2xUSB but who is still using eSATA?
Are there even any eSATA devices sold in this era?
How would they be used? Boot drive?
Anyway 2.5GbE is cool. About time.
Maybe they'll add 10GbE SFP+ options later.

The eSata connection is for their overpriced expansion boxes. Not even sure it's a true eSata but might be just they reused it for their data link between primary and expansion units.
For example I have a DS920+ which can pair with a DS517 expansion box for 5 more drive bays using the eStata connector.
