I actually meant beginning of August, we currently have no proofreader, but was completely overwhelmed by the number of applications, also a few days of holidays, still have like 30 "show us your skills" submissions to go through

Someone here on TPU made them up years ago (with permission) - one of those random websites that lets you slap a logo on and make something

It was one of the oldtimers (Lex? Ford? Dementia?)

Making one now here in Au, I'd use VistaPrint - but if you plan to do anything other than make one for yourself for personal use, run it by W1zz

Represent :), gonna have to admit i'm only half "from" the UK, Australian heritage with some Filipino and Italian, I'll try to keep the convict within me in check :D

Agreed - seems like it pays off for Linus, Gamers Nexus etc, plus sometimes they have some pretty damn good designs, i bought one of the foil shirts which was very tastefully designed IMO.

I really wanted one of the GPU teardown mouse mats, if only it was Razer Chroma compatible with border RGB...

Maybe we could do a poll on what items we would want to see in a hypothetical techpowerup store?

The subject of a TPU merch store has come up a few times and one of the newest members of staff suggested a poll and thread to offer the users of TPU input on what they might be interested in. So here we go! In the past I've suggested tshirts, and would happily buy some, but others have...

Okay, I'll start off by saying that I'm fully aware that everyone is in full raging boner mode with the Zen 4 and Raptor Lake leaks and annouces going on, so none of you probably care, but I'll say it anyway:

You guys -- the team that runs the site -- baffle me. On one hand you say you're looking for a proofreader, which implies that you strive to do better, that you care... But on the other you continiously demonstrate in practice that you don't really care for proper spelling or grammar.

Strike one:

Two weeks ago I pointed out two rookie mistakes in one news thread (then -> than, it's -> its) with the first one being in the title, which I found particularly egregious. Your staff member has his inbox disabled for plebs like me, so I had to tag him to get his attention. Nothing happened. No answer, no acknowlegement, no nothing...

Strike two:

One week ago. Another news article, another editor, another mistake I reported - this time it was incorrect sentence structure. Again, ever since I pointed that out, nothing has happened.

Strike three:

Yesterday I reported an improper use of an apostrophe for plurals and while this time I got a reply, it was a quite discouraging "It's a press release. We don't edit those for mistakes like that." and the apostrophe is still there. No hate towards the editor, he seems like a great guy, but the attitude of "We know it's there, but we don't and won't care..." was the last straw for me. And by the way, the first two articles weren't press releases. They were written by your staff.

Stating that you're trying to be better, but disregarding anyone who is trying to help you along the way is hypocritical, to say the least. And while I do know that people read the news while they're fresh and few would go rummaging around in the archives, having beginner mistakes until the end of time in there is just, as they say these days, bad optics.

If you're gonna do it, then do it right. Don't half-ass it while saying how you want to go all the way.

I'm working my way through a 50 article backlog ready for proofing in the month since the last editor/proofreader left, there's also the impending launches to be concerned with.

While the feedback is appreciated, it's not possible for me to take on the news as well at this time.

I'm sure all my colleagues are doing their best, often on little sleep, in a foreign country at an unfamiliar expo etc. Understandably, the focus is on covering every news piece with technical details first, spelling mistakes are relatively minor details in that context.

I'm not implying one person needs to be responsible for proofreading the entire site. Divide the work among as much people as you see fit. I had the (apparently naïve) idea that the person who wrote an article could spend 30 to 60 seconds to edit a particular word or couple of words when being pointed to exactly where they are. I guess this is asking too much.

As empathetic as I try to be, I really don't think that the staff's working conditions should be the reader's concern. If the current arrangement puts someone through more than he/she is willing to handle, maybe he/she should quit.
