My mom has an athlon xp machine (socket a) and I'm thinking about seeing if she'll let me run WCG on it... but I'm worried about what the temps would be like. Anyone know any good, simple temp monitoring programs I could use? I don't want to install a suite like Everest, I'd rather use something simple like coretemp

I'll give that a try

SpeedFan.

 Are you joking?

R U Joking?! Speedfan for older rigs works great imo, I've used it on plenty of older builds with good success, granted there's always that one "sensor" it reads really high or low, a little common sense goes a long ways. Plus the SMART HDD diag it does is pretty decent, it's also proven correct on HDD's that were dying or failing. HWMon should work too, to an extent. Good luck.

What's wrong with speedfan. It works great on older machines. I jused it on my opty, and my old athlon xp 754. Too bad it doesn't work with my new 955

Wow... it loads over 70c, and that's with orthos... it would cook itself to death if I ran linpack on it. I'm not comfortable running WCG on that...

when i had an athlon XP i used mbm5, i miss it it worked well with this irc script i used

I still use Speedfan to monitor my temps and control my fans. I have other temp monitor software to make sure everything is accurate..which it is;) You can also use Everest.

lavalys everest can read just about anything.

speedfan is terrible, at least on newer machines, i had someone who bought a PC off me come back 20 minutes after leaving - first thing he did was install speedfan, and bam, BSOD. system wouldnt even boot in safe mode.

I never had a problem with SpeedFan - especially on my old AthlonXP based Shuttles. I don't use it now and it does take a good amount of configuring to get it working at its optimum.

Highly recommended if HardwareMonitor doesn't cut the mustard.
