The best PC games of 2014

2013 rapidly recedes, leaving only trace memories of pirates, guns, storied old mansions and always-online debacles. For now, a moment of peace. What better time to admire the onrushing tide of destruction soon to be wrought on our spare time? Here in 2014, more people are making games than ever. More than 1500 titles line Greenlight's shelves, dozens of Kickstarter projects are coming to fruition and almost everything is headed to early access.

That's just the tip of the joyberg that awaits. Which games will pierce through the screaming throng? Of the thousands of PC games out there, which are worthy of your attention? We're here to help, with the latest in our annual mega-features about the years to come. Sit back, have a cup of tea and immerse yourself in the games of 2014 and beyond.

Just some notes from looking through that list;

• Ghost In The Shell game terrifies and excites me, it's one of my favorite IP's made by a developer/publisher who has a football field sized hard on for freemium and microtransactions.
• I would be surprised if Battlefront is out in 2014.
• I would be surprised if Fortnight is out in 2014.
• Any of the new Telltale IP's are either going to be incredible or terrible--Game of Thrones is the big one I'm on the fence about.
• I would be surprised if No Man's Sky is out in 2014--but I cannot wait for this game because it is mind-blowing.
• There's no way Doom 4 makes it out in 2014, they even list 2015 as the release date.
• Scale is one of the most interesting concepts I've ever seen, and must be a nightmare to design and program.
• Pillars of Eternity is getting more interesting every month, and I hope the best for the guys over at Obsidian.
• Cyberpunk 2077 is the single game I am most excited about, but won't be out until 2015 at the earliest--even CD Projekt said they doubt it will be out before 2015 ends.
• South Park: Stick of Truth is my vote for a sleeper hit, most people probably think it will be garbage but everything I've seen and heard about it is absolutely amazing.
• SC2 Legacy of the Void is not launching in 2014, confirmed by Blizzard.
• Although the MOBA realm is flooded expect Heroes of the Storm to be a huge hit.
• Although the CCG Space on PC is a lot less flooded expect Hearthstone to be a huge hit.

All in all the list is nifty, but it's less a one of "Best Games of 2014" and more a list of "Future PC Releases". I know about 2/3 of those games are probably going to suck, and a lot of them won't release in 2014.

Prey 2 is quite interesting but it won't be released until 2016. Other interesting titles are The Evil Within and Raindrop. Everything else doesn't bother me at all.

No DCS WWII listed. Which, interestingly, has half or so of the former IL-2 team working on it as a 3rd party developer with Eagle Dynamics. The other half partnered with 777 to make Battle of Stalingrad. I'll probably be buying more modern stuff instead of WWII stuff though.

Homeworld 2 HD is also not listed.

Surprised to see the chart claiming PC games will eclipse console games in 2014. Not sure I buy that.

Works fine on Chrome 32.0.1700.76 on my end.
