The Current State of the Forums...

I have global modded and regular modded, an I have to say that only one regular mod on with a couple of @ssh0les can wreak havok on a site while other peeps are away.


I would have to say no regular mods, and a bit heavier hand on a few that choose to start things.

As for the moderators for individual sections, some people who would be fitting IMO are-

As for the sections to be assigned, that would be up to each mod.

There are many members here who would make good mods, and not just due to their computer or ninja skills.


They must be impartial, patient, honest, willing, and able to uphold the rules without being hurt if someone calls them names. I used to hate when people called me shit after I sent a PM, then I grew to the idea that a PM, and if there was one inch moved off the line by them a week banning took care of it.

So far as warning, it is OK, but it is better if-when only the mods-admin see it.

I doubt more mods would help. Mostly the current ones just need to become more strict and cover each other's backs no matter what. I agree, far too much arguing going on. I know I can argue alittle much sometimes, but I do try to keep my arguements in the off topic section and I do try to offer at least some useful info/advice where I can. It is good to see this has come to a head and is going to be fixed. It sure seemed like it turned into the wild wild west lately. Keep up the good work. I know I will sure start to shut up and walk away instead of feeling the need to prove myself for no reason.

ANd yes, this is w1zzard's forum, he needs to be the one choosing. Running a forum is not a democracy.

I don't think there should be new mods, I think "ranks" should be made clear to the people. Some people are moderators, they decide the lines. Disagree? Contact the mod and if that doesn't get you anywhere contact one of his brothers of the faith.

Having a new mod is nice, though will people listen to him/her all of a sudden? Sounds more like the popularity contest somebody mentioned in this thread.

A sticky read-only social rules and lines not to cross thread would be handy. Most forums have them.

These peeps seem nice, I have banned people for less at a few sites. Some for being underhanded and being a setback to the site, and some for just being stupid.

I think that they should just lay down the law, this site is growing, and weather it grows to be a big waste of disk space somewhere on a server or a nicely run helpful place full of information and fun to be at is in the works NOW.

so far the ideas i like are stricter rules which will be enforced and forums assigned to moderators, and just a handful of supermods. this was the way we did it at hardforums, i was a mod there back in the good old days

I agree on the mod per forum thing with few supermods. When people know who's "in charge" and whom to turn to besides W1zzard things could be run more smoothly. I guess this is a discussion for the secret staff forum which the members know nothing about.

I think the staff should make the rules, W1z has the final word on it though. Personally I do support a round of suggestions from members. Though I haven't heard from W1z on this issue yet, so we'll see what he says.

my humble opinion is not to make some new rules but to stongly enhance the existing ones.this is a well known site.no one can register and do - say whatever he wants...

Lets start with the obvious:

-Keep things friendly
-No warez(nor requests)
-No pr0n (besides sempr0n and optepr0n)
-No breaking of the law
-No spam
-No bumping of posts within a reasonable time (people posting in their own topic 30min after starting it saying things like "why won't anybody help me?"
-Use decent topic titles, help me, omg or the name of the item that has a problem isn't a decent topic title
-Post in the right forums
-Etc
