Could someone please explain the diffrences between:

IDE Drives And Sata Drives ?

sata is newer and faster also smaller not compatible with IDE drives

ide = historical interface for harddrive and optical drives
thick cable, large 20+ pins plug
one IDE channel can support 2 drives (1 slave, 1 master) on the same cable

sata = newest interface
provides higher bandwith
thin flat cable, smal plug

Yea don't buy anything IDE now, sata cables are smaller and generally a bit faster but not by much.

I believe IDE is being phased out once and for all with the new x58 boards, except for the darn floppy drive! Why don't they make a SATA floppy drive out of interest?

Maybe because they have a stockpile of the old floppy's? cause most of us didn't even use them when they were available. :rolleyes:

Dont really need a SATA floppy drive. Lots of motherboards support USB floppy emulation, ie, making your USB thumb act like a floppy drive.
