Well Zelda fans! It has arrived and has been a long time coming in the Zelda universe!

(Outline)
"The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild[a] is an action-adventure video game developed and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch and Wii U video game consoles. It is the 19th release in the main The Legend of Zelda series. The story is set in Hyrule and follows amnesiac protagonist Link, who awakens from a 100-year slumber to a mysterious voice that guides him to defeat Calamity Ganon.

The title's gameplay and mechanics constitute a departure from the series' conventions, featuring an open-world environment, a detailed physics engine, high-definition visuals, voice acting, and the ability to play through the game's dungeons in any order. Announced in 2013, the game was initially planned for release as a Wii U exclusive in 2015, but was delayed twice prior to its release on 3 March 2017. Breath of the Wild was a launch title for the Switch, and was also the final Nintendo-produced game for the Wii U.

Upon release, Breath of the Wild received acclaim from critics, who deemed it to be one of the greatest video games ever released. Critics praised the game's open-ended, physics-driven gameplay that encourages player experimentation, with many calling it a landmark title in open-world game design, despite some having issues with the game's technical performance."

The reviews are in and I am gonna go ahead and say it.... GAME OF THE YEAR!

I have been playing it on the WiiU for about 5 Days (Release date was yesterday lol). I have never been so blown away by the adaptation of open world (HUGE!!) game play that resembles FO4, Skyrim, Borderlands, and more that is fused with the history and lore of The Legend of Zelda. I know I am gonna be binge playing this for a while! IGN posted that with only duing main quests, they were able to beat the game at right around 60 hours. They did not touch a side quest and they had 4 people playing at all times. I already have around 15+ side quests in my quest book but I wanted to see more of the main story line.

I decided to wait a little buying the Switch and BotW... I could buy it on Wii U, but hearing that the framerate is very bad even on Switch, I'd rather wait and play it on Switch.

I love hearing all the positive reviews anyway, should be a blast :D

I think you got it backwards. Framerates should be higher on the Wii U
Both are locked to 30FPS.
Switch renders the game at 900p in docked mode, or 720p undocked.
Reviewers noted that the switch has slowdowns while docked (and undocked), the same as the WiiU.
WiiU renders at 720p 30FPS. It has slowdowns but in different areas.

There are only a few graphical differences between the WiiU and Switch.

So essentially the switch has maybe 20% more rendering power, and cant play games my phone can, still has joycon issues, and a shorter battery life than most want. I await all the parents screaming when kids take it outside and drop it.

Maybe emulated CEMU 1440P will be the best way to play this game. Now i should only wait till 2025 to know :D

Just watched this video:
and it seems that there isn't a big difference between Wii U and Switch docked, they both drop sometimes, but in different areas. Overall it seems the best way to play it is on Switch handheld mode.

This makes it even more tempting to buy it on Wii U, but thankfully I have The Witcher 3 to keep me distracted for now :p

It does lag some when it renders in big towns with alot of NPCs walking around or if you are in a large forest but once it renders in it clears up and has not effected my gameplay at all or atleast I have not died because of it. It sure is beautiful though! If you are a die hard zelda fan you may cry with joy when you first walk out of that cave and see the landscape :)

I wouldn't take BotW as a measure of how much power does the Switch have. The port was done in less than a year (I recall a video saying it was 9 months) and is coming from an entirely different architecture (PowerPC+TeraScale vs ARM+Maxwell) so it's very possible that they set a lower performance threshold in order to make it to the release date.

I mean, I don't think it would, say, triple the Wii U's power but I'd think that 1080p@30fps with no drops in docked mode could have been achieved if made from the ground up for the Switch.

While I may give you that there could be another 10-15% performance in the Switch, I fear its a still birth unit.

It doesn't have the compute power to run any better than a modern smart phone, is a walled garden, the thing that makes it different than buying a tablet or smartphone is you usually get a tablet or smartphone for all the things it can do, and the switch is an expensive poor mans tablet (doesn't do much and isn't' exceptional at what it does do) and that's it so far. The games are no better than what we have on the Wii U, and its failure was the same mode, not enough power for the options implied at too high of a price and small glitches that make the system annoying.

Nintendo should have gone the other route and either released a powerful console, or ported their games over to a Nintendo App for already existing and common hardware. People that have bought it would buy almost anything Nintendo branded and liked it, but the masses won't.

The game seems awesome though, my son has already played hours on it, and I may have to give it a spin.

It seems that whatever horrible decisions Nintendo make, they are always still capable of making amazing Zelda games (thankfully)! Now let's hope that Super Mario Odyssey will be a good 3D Mario game again...

Game is pretty good so far. The last zelda game I played was the original legend of zelda on the nintendo back in 1986 when I was 13 years old. This is quite the upgrade! lol I'm playing it on the Wii U and tbh I think it is running pretty good.

@Mike0409 I actually find it hard! But here is the deal, When I'm home and have to stay in the house with family I play games in our living room on the Wii U or xbox 360. When I have free time (once everyone goes to bed) I can head out to my gaming rig which is a detached theater room from my house. Once there I can do whatever which happens to be Horizon and Conan Exiles.

It is hard to make the time but I do. :)

I have this disorder that forces me to buy every new game that looks good to me at release. It is a real issue as I don't have that kind of time. But I do it anyways. Hell later this month I have to buy ME......god help me then.

A detached theater room! Oh I need to do that... I have my basement but I am stuck to headphones since everyone is sleeping.. I need to look into this.

I have the same disorder.. I am failing at having self control these days...I will be buying Zelda after work today.. and yes.. ME is in 13 days. My check book is already crying this month of March!

Yeah my garage is detached and a decent distance from the main house. It has been fully converted into a theater room on one end (most of the garage) and two gaming desks on the other end for me and my daughter. Plus I squeezed in an obutto cockpit as well.

I can get pretty loud back there without bothering the family at night. The downside though is when I'm back there my Wife is in the main house. That means I'm not spending time within her presence, which means I'm slowing entering dog house territory. lol

So I generally spend my evenings in the house with the family (which I enjoy anyway) and if I do game it is on the Wii U. That way I'm on hand if the wife needs me. Luckily the family hit the sack at 830pm so by 9pm I'm in the back gaming.

Great game so far! Lots of fun. I get a little slow down around villages but other than that it runs pretty darn good. Can we repair weapons? That is my one complaint so far. Weapons break down much too fast.

I spent all last night just taming horses. Finally tamed one with with solid stats. Named her Trinity after one of my dogs. Anyways...good game is good.

I've read that there are some special weapons that can be reforged (you'll need minerals for that ) but I've got to run into them still.

Besides one of the shrines in a peninsula at the Necluda area there's a group of goblins with swords that have pretty good stats (at least at the point I'm currently at). Every red moon I teleport back to it and take their gear.

From what I have seen so far only certain special weapons can be repaired. The other just blow away on the wind. Kinda lame but so far not an issue.
